531-gab3f84f maintenance

Post by triton »

Players are playing on 103 again :( they suffer from fps issues on 531. 151-g11de57d was mostly fine, but it cannot be dled anymore, because of 120 days rule.

What should we do? What stable engine version do engine dev recommends for BA players? It is possible that some sync errors are caused because the way players dl the engine?

Use the latest maintainence, currently 104.0.1-531 (or something close to it), or the latest master, 104. If there are bugs, report them.

Any hosts running non-release Spring versions that are no longer available for download should be removed, or updated. Deletion of non-master branch builds after 120 days is not a "rule", it's a limit of diskspace, iirc caused by the debug symbols having large filesize.

Also, re 151, https://springrts.com/mantis/view.php?id=5955

If a single player desyncs repeatedly, and no one else does, they should re-dl the map/game. For newbies, to re-dl the game, the simplest way to do so is often by deleting the pool/cache/packages/rapid dirs (although this is a bit of a sledgehammer). If multiple players desync, report to mantis, especially if the desync occured early in the game.

It's not impossible that sync errors would be caused by a corrupt engine dl but afaics the chances of that ever actually happening, without breaking a million other things, are astronomically small.

They are built & made available soon after a new commits to the maintainence branch (not sure if automated or on command of devs). There's no need to stay absolutely up to date with the newest version, just to keep close enough that bug reports can be dealt with.
