Quarter loss of 273 million - EA stopped development on C&C
EA terminated the Victory Games Studio´s and the working on Command&Conquer. It seems, Free to Play is not a real alternative for RTS games for such a large company like EA games. Next upcoming C&C is in planning but under different preconditions.

yeah, did you hear, today was the last day for battleforge. They just let the axe fall on everything today apparently.

It's ok, EA and RTS (or anything involving a brain) don't mix.
Re: Quarter loss of 273 million - EA stopped development on
well you can say that, but every game that gets canceled is a red flag to developers saying "dont make rts games".gajop wrote:It's ok, EA and RTS (or anything involving a brain) don't mix.
Company of heroes migth have payed itself but it failed in getting to that premium status, world in conflict gone, men of war its like a russian exclusive, the multitude of small tactical base RTSs also met with very little interest. Age of empires franchise stagnated etc..
And now people call MOBAS RTSs......

>_> mostly talks about <_> league of legends and dota <_<
PA i dont expect it to go that far, its way to supreme commander to me, so you see theres no RTS thats coming out in the next years, probably the next iteration of starcraft II .
Shall i continue i dont consider CIV 5 and total war belonging to the RTS genre, its kinda of a subgenre of RTS, total war being the closest.
In the end RPGs, mmos and all that free2play browser based madness is what suceeds. Maybe chriss taylor can make something out of it with wargaming.net.

Why do some people speak of the future of RTS with such despair? What website are we on now? Do you also despair on the future of operating systems solely because of the direction MS windows takes, or is there not a signifcant alternative with huge prospects?

Is this a trick question?CarRepairer wrote:Do you also despair on the future of operating systems solely because of the direction MS windows takes, or is there not a signifcant alternative with huge prospects?

AAA gaming is off limits everyone except those already in it, and that number is being trimmed constantly. EA is no exception to the rule. I'm surprised C&C wasn't killed off sooner, especially with the stuff they did to CC4.
Re: Quarter loss of 273 million - EA stopped development on
oh god C&C4 was terrible..
Re: Quarter loss of 273 million - EA stopped development on
We got to keep up with this. We got to canchel something.. and do it fast.

The ftp CNC was really weak, but isn't Forge in that phase of development where it just makes monies? And EA's ftp dota entry is pretty good.

I played the Alpha and it wasnt too good. Kinda Pay2Win and horrible balance. Could have been a good game though.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I hope maybe one day the concept is recycled into something better.TaShadan wrote:I played the Alpha and it wasnt too good. Kinda Pay2Win and horrible balance. Could have been a good game though.
