I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 11.04 to 12.04 on my laptop, and soon after downloaded Spring 91.0 for it. Previously I had 85.0 on this machine and it worked fine. Probably related is that there's only an Intel Gfx card here.
And then when I launch it, all I get is black textures and unit icons won't show when zoomed out. F1/F2/F4 do work but are still darker than usual.
Not sure what's causing this, the switch in OS version or in Spring version, screenie and infolog attached.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Re: Black textures on Ubuntu 12.04/9.1
I had this same bug on win7 when I upgraded spring version - solved it by upgraded graphics drivers. But for linux its probably going to be different.

Only ubuntu ever accomplished full stealth spring...
still at least its not tiled

Ok, then it's probably not linked to the OS change, just the Spring version update.Silentwings wrote:I had this same bug on win7 when I upgraded spring version - solved it by upgraded graphics drivers. But for linux its probably going to be different.
Got newer drivers with
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/xorg-e ... st=precise
but nothing changed.

You need to enable DXT texture compression in MESA ...
or enable your Nvidia GPU if there is one.

Re: Black textures on Ubuntu 12.04/9.1
S3TC texture compression (same thing as far as I've understood?) is enabled.
Also noticed that if I zoom really close to the ground, I can see the texture. But almost any zoom from minimum height brings up this black fog.

Re: Black textures on Ubuntu 12.04/9.1
then do a `/advmapshading`
Re: Black textures on Ubuntu 12.04/9.1
No effect, beyond the message of disabling/enabling. So should it be 1 or 0, in further testing?
Noticed something else though by chance. Maps with Voidwater behave differently (regardless if there's actual water on it). They just... Disappear, so you only see the skybox behind the map. Again you can see the map texture when zoomed in to the max.
And there's some more errors on the infolog now, I guess it's due to installing the bleeding edge graphics drivers. So uploaded a new one. It only puts out the error after exiting, though, as it does here:

Could be unrelated to the main issue here though.

Re: Black textures on Ubuntu 12.04/9.1
Did you try x-swat before the x-edgers?
Also the switch --safemode might help.

Re: Black textures on Ubuntu 12.04/9.1
--safemode got it to work, and after trying through the tags it changes, changing LoadingMT=2 into -1 or 0 worked. Thanks! Not sure when or why I've changed it to 2.
When playing a game I got some really weird graphic glitches though, with units disappearing and fighters occasionally looking like bulldogs, among other things. Gonna get rid of x-edgers and hopefully that'll stabilize that.
