MP3 player suggestions and info

Post by mephisto2 »

I want to buy an MP3 player, not a very expensive one, since im not that big of a music listener, however, i still want it to output sound at high quality.

The 3 most important things to be are sound quality price and usability.
I dont care about video playback, special features, radio..
All i care about is the highest quality of sound for price and the best usability for price.

So can anyone can recommend anything?Anyone has any device that he really likes?

I think even 4G should be fine for me.

Sansa Clip - Discontinued, still in market. 1 GB to 4 GB. Under 35 USD.
Sansa Clip+ - 4GB to 8GB. MicroSD slot. Under 60 USD.
Sansa Clip Zip - 4GB. Colour screen. MicroSD slot. Under 50 USD.

Sound quality is pretty good for all of the above, can even decode FLAC. Really beat the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano on all levels - price, software, battery life, audio quality. The Clip+ has one major weakness, poor design of the physical clip on the back, otherwise it is all good.

Ipod Nano served me well. It's a little pricey but it's small, and very rugged.

Yeah the sansa ones are quite nice really. Also, on many of them you can flash different firmware: http://www.rockbox.org/

If you do a quick search for this topic, you'll probably find the MP3 player thread flozi(?) started a few months ago. It's a little dated, but still full of useful information.

I have a nice combo that im gonna buy.
I needed a good player with excellent sound quality but i also couldnt spend too much money.
I thought about getting one of the sansa products like Neddie offered buyt than i found out it sorts an shows songs only by tags as oppsoe to song names.
It also cant create fodlers and directories.
I than decided to get somthing a bit more expensive.
I am going for the iAudio/Cowon i9 8GB Plus the CX300II Sennheiser headphones.

Both deliver very good sound quality and the cowon players allow to create directories.

Its a bit more expensive than the sansa products but i think this combo is very good price for quality.

The Sansa players show songs by name, artist and album. I think you can create playlists and perhaps folders, but I mostly listen by artist or album so I've used neither feature.

The sound quality on my Cowon J3 and knackered old sennheiser mx-50s was awesome.
