Latest master compiles without a hitch on Visual Studio 2005, all you have to do is remove dsound.lib from the linker additional dependencies.
You dont need any fancy libraries, any configuration - just have visual studio 2005, get the source zip from github and the vclibs zip from github.
So if you ever felt like you wanted to look around the engine, or were held back by thinking its too hard to get into it, its a great time to try your hand at building the engine!

it is just as easy on Linux with gcc, of course.
most will probably know that, but for new devs, it can't hurt to say it anyway.

Visual studio 2005?? Lol I havent seen it for many many years..
Even visual studio 2010 starts feeling old.
Does it run same in VS2010? If not why not? It should not be different right?

I cant say how it is for VS10 but the compiler's behavior slightly changed between different VS versions in the past so you might have to change source code here and there.
Also I dont know if the vc8libs play well with VS10.
Personally I also dont have VS2005 anymore, only VS2008 and VS2010.
