because so many people in Spring want to go down this road..

even I created a map and some 3d models and then thought about gaming industry but decided to just take general 'computer science' course instead

Vidya Games industry sucks..

for reference look to the porn industry near hollywood, the crack and pimpindustry and other glittercompanys who serve crunchips and captain crunch for breakfast.

If you want to do gamedesign you will have to bring your own money along to make a prototype, 150.000 at least or you join a OS-Project and do it in hours and hours of work for yourself. (Springtime)

The industry is there to milk dumb teenagers and non-life-housewifes, feeding the milk to risk shy pensionfunds and other shareholders.

He used a R-word, kick his worthless ass out of the officebox into the cardboardbox he came in. If you find fullfillment as programer of accurate tit and hairsimulations you are hired, if you want to do elaborate exotic algorithms (for example new game-rules) we get tired, if its dangerous, you are fired.

From time to time good people come here, they post there stuff, the stuff is awesome and they go into the industry. Mysteriously some months later, they return bitter and dissappointed to troll, or quit the industry entirely. To inaccurately quote the might smoth for truth:

"If you want to join the Game Industry, learn general computer sience engineering first. Then you can earn a living elsewhere, once your dreams get busted."

Generally speaking you'll never find a programming job that is "fun". Sorry. However life ain't over because of that, you can still do fun stuff in your spare time.

Smoth - the coding technique shown in your avatar - it looks very advanced- is that the new language everyone is talking about? HypeCode? Straight from head to key-int-urface? I saw people doing programs in assembler that way... its ineddible- can you teach us how to do this king-fuuuu?

Its always was my dream to be CEO in the vidya game industry. I hate artists, always wanted to hire them boiling with creativity and then torture them by making them work on "barbie-Q-s great adventure in the sweatshop"

Has somebody ordered 4000 prefab nooses from a chinese contractor? They dont fit our standardface, so you will have to work extrahours, to create a tool that autoglues them into our generic zombiefaces...

Is there a textual transcript? It's not the animation or acting that's interesting anyway.

i was thinking exact same... so pointless to make a video where is no actual video content at all, it would have been smarter if there was just blank background with subtitles... its painful to listen some slow guys talking when theres no other content in it. and lol, they didnt even use own voices there, but some stupid synthetic talking voices, fucking lame video... not gonna watch just because i feel so irritated to listen synthetic talking voices for longer than 10 words...

Yeah programming is definitely the most fun job I done..
The most boring was in the factory line - night shifts doing the same movement for 8h at 0.7$/hour :-)

I can also compare game industry coding vs enterprise coding - game industry was more fun but much less money. Also the commercial pressures from publisher were annoying - basically the focus was on selling and we could not make game we wanted. Work itself certainly differs from studio to studio though and from task to task. Some tasks give you room for creativity and problem solving, some dont. For example friend hates coding work he done on Mafia 2.
Also game studios employ many more artists than coders.

Lies. The Artists are the myth of the industry. There are two or three guys, drawing the general line- but the 3dmodelling is outsourced. Remember how behe called it (the uvwmapping)- tedious, mindless roustabout work? Sounds like stuff for me they could do in 3rd world countrys if they had comps- and they do.

There are leveldesigners- scriptors, iconartists (if you refer to that as art) - but compared to them, the coders are way moar important, and they are treated better. Thousands of peoples want to work as gamedesigners- but without coders all there suggestions amount to nothing.

Big studios like EA treat their employees like crap I hear.. hiring psychologists to monitor people. Also lots of overtime. :(

I agree, some studies showed that a 32 h work week is as productive as a 40 h work week. Industrialization and automation was supposed to free us but it didn't really.
In the old days you got up at morning and plowed your field, planted the seeds, then all you had to do was pick the weeds until harvest time.
Not sure if working between years 20-68(plus all school years preparing for that work), 8h+/day, 235 days a year, to produce shit that always ends up in a dumpster in the end, can be seen as human progress.

Well I can speak for 3 Czech studios I knew, Illusion softworks (Mafia, Hidden & dangerous), Altar (UFO series, original war), Bohemia interactive (Operation flashpoint, Arma) ..

Those employed many times more artists than coders. There were about 3-4 coders and 15 artists working on UFO. And those coders even had to make the engine for the game not just the game.

Also in recent times artists are considered far more important than coders. Coders are now often considered technical engineers, implementing their tasks defined by designers and you can see them listed near the end in credits.

Yeah it was way better back when there was serfdom when you worked 6 days fulltime for your owner.
Or during the industrialization, with 14h workshifts in factory 6 days/week..
