I always imagined them beeing chained together possibilitys, and now this is polygons, beeing gtad- by knorke.

INB4 everybody copypaste it and creates drive-over-able infantry. Copy Pasted to be used upon some jouerneyman structures. Guess Kivi the bird is already singing songs of praise by now.

Knowing how much hours must have went into that perfection, makes the rage on some drive-by-looters moar understandable. Excellent work, especially in times, were people tend to clutter up mechas with transformers styled mechanical parts.

I think it is a good thing that many of the content show off videos are comical/fun. Too many engines have dry uninteresting videos

5000 tris would be ok for something that isn't going to be seen in large numbers I'd imagine... but for an RTS they'd have to be well spent tris

Doesn't matter what engine or what game you using.. Anything 3d should always be as low polygons as possible.

Especially with Normal map support, there is an incredible amount of details you can make just with the texture layers which free up alot of resources that could be used to render more units.

IMO the only exceptions are the super units, like Commanders, factories(depending on game style) or rare units like Krogoth which are late game.

LOD support while adding a ton of extra work, can really change the need for lower poly geometry, but only a huge development team would really be able to use it because of the time involved.

For a game with over 200 units each needing 3-4 levels of detail, that each needs to be UV mapped and each object of the model scripted and synchronized perfectly, that is just too much work for your regular solo mod maker.
