to install program with wine, your need to do
Code: Select all
wine progam-to-install
How am I supposed to try to install tas with wine ?
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Springlobby, QtLobby if you fix some things and maybe that new java lobby.
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Well, does unzipping it work? Might need to grab spring portable so it can have unitsync.dll.
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Would be awsome if you were able to do it (and explain how to install)lurker wrote:Well, does unzipping it work? Might need to grab spring portable so it can have unitsync.dll.
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Explain? Unzip http://springrts.com/dl/spring_0.82.7.1portable.7z and http://springrts.com/dl/tasclient/TASClientLatest.7z into the same folder, and try to run tasclient. Worry about making it see your real spring install later.

You want me to launch a window executable with linux ???
I installed spring with wine, spring lobby is unstable.
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Okay, apparently you missed the point of wine. Its job is not to run windows installers. Its job is to run windows *applications*. Like tasclient.exe.
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
OK I tryed, well, got plenty of box errors: First one is :
Code: Select all
[unitsync] error: Init: Required base file 'base/springcontent.sdz' does not exist.
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Is tasclient.exe in the directory that has base/?
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Ok, it was just an error due to to unzipping.
I am able to launch and connect without error but then gui freeze for 2 minutes if I touch something. As a result it freeze all my ubuntu gui too.
I put the console output in case you could do something.

Working :D
I am able to launch a game and play !
I need to test more to see what really makes it unstable.
But looks like Linux finally has a good lobby option to play !!!
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
using wine for spring too ?
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
I use wine to launch TAS then everything works well, like with windows: TAS launch spring (windows portable) using wine probably since it works like a charm :DSatirik wrote:using wine for spring too ?
You should definitely make a portable installation of spring+TAS with windows and add that in the download page as a Linux option.
With default option so that it does not crash/freeze ofc.
This is the best thing that could happen to make people use spring with linux.
I did not play spring under linux just cause spring lobby was too awful, but this makes spring under linux much more playable and Gui friendly

Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
Out of curiosity: Whats wrong with springlobby?
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
i know there is a way to run the linux version of spring with tasclient, before springlobby exists, some people (such as lordmatt) used to play with tasclient on linuxalbator wrote:I use wine to launch TAS then everything works well, like with windows: TAS launch spring (windows portable) using wine probably since it works like a charm :DSatirik wrote:using wine for spring too ?

Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
- how can you join a battle that is lock ? : with TAS client, you just click to talk to host. click take 1 sec. Tell me fastest method to do with spring lobby ? far too long for mevery_bad_soldier wrote:Out of curiosity: Whats wrong with springlobby?
- When, you want to chat and check status of player for a game while looking for other open battles you can display all of them in one screen with tas, with spring lobby you have to switch between all, all the time.
This two point are just exemples, that may looks ridiculous for some people that takes their time to play but players dont like to wast minutes to do thoses boring stuffs.
TASClient has just a fucking awsome gui layout that allow you to do everything simultaneously, that is just the difference between the average student that keep good results (spring lobby) and top class student that always aims higher and most efficient even if he already got 20/20.
Re: Does any alternative exist for lobby with linux ?
for the record you can move tabs in springlobby to see battles and chat at the same time
