Looking for a fun multiplayer game...

...to play with my 11 year old brother. they moved to south africa recently and Im eager to spend some time with him gaming (im still in Toronto)

anything in-browser is good, we can chat over skype

anything with a small download is good.

system requirements should be minimal...64mb video ram...1gb ram...1.5-2.0 ghz processor...

no gore/excessive violence/foul language/sexuality please...though I'm sure in his coming teen years the parents will be less strict on that.

For simple RTS titles...

What about Kernel Panic? It's simple, fast, and you can play it both competitively or you can team-up and comp stomp. Might be a strain on that proc though.

Or, for similar reasons, there's Marzec Quantum... but Quantum doesnt' render perfeclty on low-spec cards.

hedgewars is good, very polished, online multiplay works reliable, something the original worms games always failed in (for me at least)
it has the cartoon violence of worms though.

minigolf browser game:

nothing special, just minigolf and it works.
The site has billiard and some other games too but they all suck.

subspace/continuum is cool too, a quite old multiplayer 2d spaceship game. its played public servers with many players so some foul language might appear in ingame chat. You can attach your ship to a teammate and thus become a turret, that is lots of fun with voice. DeathStarBattle is a good server for start.

Any Trackmania or the free Trackmania Nations.
Racing game with loops etc. Have not tried if 1on1 play is possible over internet, at least with hamachi it probally is. Its not so much playing "together" as the cars do not collide and so its basically time attack. Still fun because some tracks are difficult and you will fail alot.

Trackmania has a steep learning curve in my oppinion but it can be fun.
You should know that you can use the break in the air.

Forget any realism in this game and you need patience lots of it.

Id rather play some rallye game or so which is not so frustrating.
Trackmania is basically a riddle game with you beeing under the pressure to react quickly.


I almost forgot: carom3D which is an arcarde pool billard game.
Its pretty good but once you played virtua pool 3 you want to play this.
VP3 has no good online mp part unfortunately and its not free.

Thank you for this thread, Hedgewars and Teeworlds both look pretty fun.

On a side note, Soldat is having a "pay what you want" sale for their registered version.
