Re: Talon Mod
And where can i observe development progress?
PS. Checked news and faq at this site and found no intentions to make it for Spring RTS.

Re: Talon Mod
You know it's a three years rez?
TheRegisteredOne merged Talon with Wotan's TA:Escalation (formerly TAWP) but there are no plan of going to Spring.
TA community and Spring community split.
Once in a while, I surf back to TAU waters, and I am always amazed by how they diss Spring, going as far as saying TA3D is better.

Re: Talon Mod
Would it be worth my time to try to patch things, z? I've run out of windmills to joust at.
Re: Talon Mod
Yep, i know what i'm doing :) Don't see what's wrong here. One more topic is useless for me. Besides this one is short.zwzsg wrote:You know it's a three years rez?
I would say concept is better from their (mod devs) point of view. They wanna get 3D _without_ modifying any file in their mod. This is the main goal of TA3D.zwzsg wrote:Once in a while, I surf back to TAU waters, and I am always amazed by how they diss Spring, going as far as saying TA3D is better.
I suspected this. Just asked for info without optimism.
Re: Talon Mod
I still have some old talon files spring compatible. I can't be asked to do anything with it.
Re: Talon Mod
Why? Is it about the TA gameplay or about the modability?zwzsg wrote:TA community and Spring community split.

I dislike how some things are going the way of spring tbh some units are a bit more detailed than they need to be. Minimise use of CPU and GPU resources please
Re: Talon Mod
Ugh, i used to respect that poster too.
Re: Talon Mod
A large portion of the OTA community has old machines that run TA fine, but couldn't be expected to run Spring or even Homeworld 1.
Rather than bow to the idea that their old machines are old, and they should only really be using their newer machines to play the newer games, they insist everything stays there. An new TA engine should run on the same systems or specs as OTA.
The TA3D people have pandered to this community by keeping specs low and putting a huge emphasis on compatibility, while the spring community has been cryptic about how to convert TA mods, despite it being much less work than first appears.
Now the TA3D code base is maturing, they're adding features and the OTA community don't like it.
It surprises me that nobody has taken the initiative to write a flotilla of lua gadgets and a script to unpack the GAFs so that the process of conversion is as simple as repacking into an sd7 with an extra dependency archive.....

Don't drink the water. It makes you forget.
I can't even remember how I got here...

Re: Talon Mod
You were at TAU once. You had started making models. I was telling you to move your points away to break the cubiness. Which is funny considering how now I'd be the one asking how do you model.
As for that water, what I meant is that the TA (or TAU? or b?) people joked that Spring devs kept on working on news version after new version of the water renderer, making it prettier and shiner each time, instead of working on the important stuff like removing radar auto-targetting.

Yep, I remember. I was quoting a line from Half-Life 2. And I still recall your advice. *bows*

They try to contaminate our precious bodily fluids, drinking only pixels over there at TA-Union.
