Classic TA is basically the content directly ripped from OTA and loaded into Spring. It was the basis for my semi-abandoned "Hardcore Annihilation" which was basically a bugfix of CTA.luckywaldo7 wrote:If by CTA you mean...

Realistically, XTA is the TA-variant with a real playerbase that is closest to old TA. BOTA is similar, but has a smaller playerbase... although I'd say that BOTA stopped really being able to keep the name when they added machineguns to the T1 transports.

Third of all HUGE parts of OTA are completely absent fomr spring in general.
OTA used to be about constantly manually telling units to attack enemy units and spamming hawks and other fighters...Both of those are completely out in even CTA.
In OTA there were air maps that worked properly,none of it is possible in TA mods on Spring.
In short even a direct unit and stats port cant even come close to TA gameplay cause of how different the 2 engines are.
If you want a direct OTA port wait till TA3D is finished.

Do you know how many people play ugly games? People play ugly games on facebook all day. Much lower quality than spring. And supcom is JUST as ugly as spring. And frankly dont show people spring on a netbook and it will look nicer.

XTA is farther from TA than BA is. But TBH I still see BA as pretty similar to OTA, it added quite a few units and did a lot of balancing, but overall it's the spirit of TA gameplay, at least in my mind, but maybe that's just me.
OTA was amazing but it's balance wasn't perfect, BA (and everything that came before it) stepped in and fixed (mostly) those problems. BA isn't perfect either but it's pretty damn good balance. If someone wants a true TA clone they can play TA3D(but supposedly even that changes some balance things?), but as for me I'm happy with BA. Might not be pretty but it's damn good, and that's what counts.

I recommend discontinuing this discussion, since no one knows what they are talking about, and BA is obviously ugly and XTA at least has some nicer models and effects. Thats the only on-topic part of the discussion.
Just get a nice cpu, decent gfx card, and turn on all the shaders you can find in the lua forum.
