removing team color from gundam

Post by smoth »

So I don't like teamcolor ruining my beautiful canon colors...

The idea is to replace it with a teamcolor health bar, outline or selection tray...

thoughts?

Can you do a demo of what you are proposing (screens maybe)? It might make voting easier, as I think thats a hard one personally.

Doing a demo would be a lot of work for a feature I am considering.

Hehe I was just about to mention teamplatter.

Removing team color should be fine.

was thinking using outline over xray as xray is like making the whole texture muddy

I could remove it from P.U.R.E. in a heartbeat, and nobody would notice- the teamplatters made it irrelevant. Go for it.

I personally find outlines a lot more distracting than platters, but that's just me.

Apparently Smoth is attempting to rig the election against my pro-teamcolor bias.

And lo! S44 had shown the way, and the way was good, and others began to follow the way.

lol 'invalid'.

Yeah, anyway, dont remove it: Having platters around everything all the time is immersion breaking. Having them around selected units is somewhat expected and necessary, but you need to know the alliance of any and all units at once, and that means playing with a bunch of coloured checkers with robots riding around on their backs.

Outline widgets can be laggy but disregarding that, having every unit glowing with colours id say is more immersion breaking than non-canon colours would be.

Personally, I'd actually just attach a Samurai-style banner to the backs of the units, but that would be a ton of work and also non-canon... but it would allow in-gameworld teamcolor display without changing the colors of the units.

I could see platters working if they were fully integrated into the UI, to make the whole UI feel like it's using the same in-universe display-technology (like it's some kind of satellite-overlay-HUD thing), but otherwise they break immersion.

But I would have voted no.

When I play GRTS, I want to experience beautiful models on beautiful maps. Not an abstraction of red discs vs blue discs.

There's nothing wrong in changing the paint of the units from canon. Make the unit power and use cases match those from canon, give them the same weapon loadout as canon, etc... but color better stay team colored.

And I've seen a paint bucket once in a Gundam episode so I'm pretty sure you don't break any canon by implying they do know about paint and in the Gundam universe.

Because health bar obviously must be health colored! Besides it would be better (but tons of work) to remove health bar, and replace them by smoke, fire, scorch marks, and broken limbs.
