Well Halo there
One Map im currently workin on, part of a culture orbital.. (which Halo ripped of from Ian Banks who in turn ripped his Culture of the neverending party from Douglas Adams who ripped it of from a neverending party nearby which was sponsored by a sucksexfull Copyrightlawyers wife)
However, it misses something, (there will be water inside, just not rendered it in..) now, suggestions what to add? Volcano?
It will be 64x16, heavily using typemaps to dirtyworkaround the engine hating 3dimensional objects.
The curve of the O is basically given by the Texture you cant overstretch (once a mountain is overhanging, it basically becomes a very ugly cliff)

Re: Well Halo there
You're listing all the stolen inspiration of Halo and you fail to list Niven's Ringworld? Banks didn't invent it.
Face it, this is not a new concept.
Looks awesome.

I love Banks even more. Look to Winward!JAZCASH wrote:I LOVE HALO!

YES! make it a ringworld map instead of a halo mapRingworld
and it looks great.
Re: Well Halo there
Ringworld's defining attribute is it's size. The whole point of Ringworld is that it's a million mercator maps duct-taped together. A single planet big enough to house every habitable place in the galaxy.
Something tells me that a 64x16 Spring map really couldn't capture that feel well.

Re: Well Halo there
dont forget rendezvous with rama
Re: Well Halo there
ringworld, that makes a completeley flat Map with a nice Skybox.. imagine the challenge
And Rama is pretty simple, just needs a complete engine re-write: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiO8CgGiWPM

Re: Well Halo there
back at those days we had to count the kilobytes, not like the youth today, wasting bandwith, no no, after the war(ez), we were poor, we starved to even have textpages loaded.. even the elder did not complain back then, because that would have been a waste of fonts

It looks awesome! beautiful and (within the spring community) innovative.
The curve is an illusion, and not a result of the hightmap? So none of this kind of gameplay(?) :

Re: Well Halo there
the curve is part of the heightmap, the typemap would, if it worked, care for the correct movement..
Re: Well Halo there
But ballistic weapons would still be much better shooting from 1 direction?

what do you mean with "if worked" ?PicassoCT wrote:the curve is part of the heightmap, the typemap would, if it worked, care for the correct movement..
typemaps seems to work fine here
Re: Well Halo there
Unless the green stripe is drawn by Lua, that's never gonna look like that ingame except when the camera is placed at one perfect unique point.
