Request:Ashap Plateau

Post by Gota »

Would be cool if someone was to remake this map and make it look more modern with a shiny new texture.
It used to be played tons back in the day...
Maybe a nice new texture can resurrect it from the map graveyard.

I have an Ashap Plateau esque series but, of course, textures are my weak point.

Can you post some heightmaps Neddie?
Even if they are very Raw and you think they suck.

The problem with the current one is that the 'flat' ground is all lumpy and weird, like noisy with spikes, while the starting positions have only 1 mex each (though really, it wouldnt be the same map otherwise).

I will take a look. Surely fixing it wouldn't be very hard.

Here ya go. New texture, fixed heightmap and a few other things that have always bothered me.

Get the revised map here, if you like it, feel free to post to the map 'sites, etc.

Hmm...Johan is right...
The map is unplayable.

It's a one-line change in a text file, I think you guys can probably do that yourselves.

Argh, do you really want someone modifying it that isn't you? I mean, yeah, we can, but just cause we can doesn't mean that we should (out of common courtesy if for no other reason).

No, I don't mind if somebody wants to change a text file setting to whatever they think is right for BA and then uploads it. It's not like this was my heightmap design, other than flattening the "spikes", and it took maybe an hour to paint and light, and I don't want to change that setting to whatever I think is appropriate, then have various numbskulls call the map "unplayable", instead of fixing it up themselves.

but then we'll get the whole "DSD" problem, and there will be about 30 slightly different versions of the same map

And I don't care, because I can't use the map for P.U.R.E., as it's a derivative work based on copyrighted material.

So, somebody just decide what metal value the patches should give for OTA mods, and then upload it to SpringFiles or whatever.

I liked the original Ashap enough to fix the Spring version's problems... I am not, however, here to make OTA maps, and I figure that somebody who downloaded the map already can just change the metal output to somewhere between 1.0 and 2.0 and call it a day.

Actually you can, it didnt stop supreme commander making a tonne of maps that look suspiciously like TA maps but with twists.
