Battle for a City (give it a name someone!)

Post by Min3mat »

The CORE were hedged in, their colossal computer desperately conserving its scarce resources.
The ARM laid siege to the island but were driven back from the Key land installations to the North of the Isand by the CORE├óÔé¼Ôäós super heavy battleship, the Emancipator and the Conquerer-Class Suppreser. Unable to attack these bunkered, heavily defended installations by Air the ARM chose to attack the Ships defending them. Forced to take a awkward approach due to the installations heavy AA most of their fighters were lost to CORE AA Turrets spread throughout the shore. As the AA fell silent the remaining ARM pilots knew they were scewed. A Black Cloud arose from the CORE command centre, consisting entirely of Avenger-Class Fighters which tore through the ranks of the bombers due to their lack of cover. With no chance of escape the remaining ARM desperately struggled to the docks, only to be finished by SAM sites and the Flak on the Battleships and their supporting ships. In the CORE Command Centre the computer whirred happily.
The CORE spotter planes spotted enemy activity, The CORE readied their ships and lay in wait.
The ARM, So Sure of their impending victory set up artillery and laid down covering fire to allow their minesweepers time to clear the mines.
As the First Wave formed the ARM commander sited himself on a ridge and began producing airfields to bolster aircraft production.
With their Minds set on a swift assault and resolution bolstered by their numerical superiority the ARM failed to fortify their position adequately, It was not long before the CORE computer saw this weakness and set about scheming to turn the tide.
As Morning came so did the CORE, their heavy units and a surprising lack of infantry loomed on the horizon, the ARM commander was puzzled├óÔé¼┬ªwhy didn├óÔé¼Ôäót the CORE put out their full strength?. The CORE began a Artillery barrage of their own then. Again the ARM saw only the immediate threat and ordered all units to the staging area.
Unknown to the ARM the CORE had created a flotilla of transport ships and escorts which proved unnecessary as the CORE had a surprisingly easy landing. Only the Morning after the ARM commander received the dire news├óÔé¼┬ªthey were outflanked! The CORE had laid a deadly minefield South of their position as well as barricades for the Infantry to fight behind, As well as this the CORE battleships had circled round and now poured heavy artillery fire into the ARM├óÔé¼Ôäós staging base.
Beset from all sides the ARM prepared to make a stand. Having completed the Airfields the ARM Commander felt it was time to make his air presence felt. Away from CORE Vulture├óÔé¼Ôäós and RADAR systems the ARM believed that quick strikes would be most effective, forcing CORE to keep planes in the air at all times, mounting false attacks before going for their real target to disguise their intentions until the last possible moment.
The CORE computer was growing frustrated, Its Air Superiority was being whittled down but there was nothing it could do, it knew if it put its full force in the Sky the enemy woudn├óÔé¼Ôäót attack until they were refuelling.
After one such false attack, in which almost all active CORE fighters at the time were destroyed by, what seemed to be brawlers without support├óÔé¼┬ªuntil the Hawk├óÔé¼Ôäós swooped from the Clouds. Then with the CORE in confusion the ARM struck, A massive wing of Lancet-Class Tornado Bombers were launced and the Suppresor sunk, albeit at a high cost of ARM pilots. Whilst the Suppresor sunk below the waves the ARM swiftly carpet bombed the CORE to the North as their extra AA support walked through the minefield they were set upon and many Crashers were lost due to friendly fire from the nearby mines.
Worried by this change in tactics the CORE computer whirred, calculating. Without › of their heavy Artillery support the CORE position seemed vulnerable to the extreme thought the Commander as he watched the Sun set on the debris strewn grass.
The CORE forces were Outnumbered by the ARM and the Bulldogs and Snipers took their toll on the Northern CORE attack, the Heavy Kbots and vehicles without enough support were getting torn apart. The Lighter Infantry attack from the South had more luck abd were beginning to push the ARM back├óÔé¼┬ª.or so they thought.
ARM units poured from their underground shelters taking the CORE completely by surprise. As the Northern CORE forces pulled back to regroup they were beset by kamikazee planes and ARM artillery. It was not long before they were driven from the fortifications and into the outskirts of the City.
Meanwhile the CORE were effectively stopped in their southern advance due to the ARM booby traps as well as the ARM commando teams of Snipers, Fidos, and RADAR Jammers as well as all these mortal perils the ARM Commander Roamed the Ruined Area like a Ghost Haunting the CORE units and Dgunning Anyone who dared stand in his path. After the Loss of almost a third of their Southern Infantry they sounded the retreat, only to be flanked and attacked by Fast Assault Vehicles and Flash light tanks, dodging between the giant mechs and massive tanks to destroy more of the supporting infantry. It was a Battered army that returned to the Southern Fortifications.
The ARM had, however lost the Skies due to the demolition of the Airfields before the CORE could get their dirty mitts on them,
With the ARM line arranged so the CORE computer saw a wonderful chance├óÔé¼┬ª
Thanks to the lack of ARM resistance the CORE managed to land another load of troops right in the middle of the ARM line, Taking the Eastern Defenses and take the Artillery close to the ARM airfield, Turning the ARM guns on their own, killing their units and bombarding the last ARM Outpost.
But the CORE, although damaging the ARM had far from destroyed them and had, in their desperation pulled the ARM into the City. As the Western Outpost fell the stragglers of the Main Force caught up and entered the City.
The Urban Surroundings of the City would prove to be a Double Edged sword├óÔé¼┬ª
CORE Air Superiority was taking its toll on the ARM, bereft of fixed AA positions and with only light buildings as cover the ARM commander realised that they must enter the city proper to stand so much as a chance of survival├óÔé¼┬ªlet alone victory├óÔé¼┬ª
The ARM Numerically Superior from the start had already entered the suburbs! In near panic the CORE shipped its units back to defend the city, leaving but a token force of construction units and minelayers with only a division of infantry and a handful of supporting tanks.
Hoping that if it could only hold the Industrial Sector it could out produce the ARM and win regardless of whether the ARM retreated or not. The ARM commander saw this too├óÔé¼┬ªthis was do or die├óÔé¼┬ª
But with the Key Installations fallen whilst the Battleships were away things looked grim even if the CORE could hold the Industrial Sector
After days of Merciless fighting in the streets the ARM proved the better the Commander as well as the Bulldogs, Rockos and Hammers Proving adept at Urban combat. The remaining CORE were forced into a huge building close to the City Proper and prepared to make a stand.
Although the CORE had managed to stop the ARM from Outflanking them on the west by destroying the building they could have occupied they were unable to stop he ARM outflanking the West and East. The Buildings were taken with ease and soon Artillery and Rockets poured into the building the CORE had chosen to make their stand, from no less than 3 directions.
Realising they were Unable to defend the Building the CORE retreated to the heights, a few ARM FAV├óÔé¼Ôäós and Flashes attempted to harass the CORE but were soon annihilated by the Heavy HLT and LLT fire coming from the CORE lower level of the defenses

Sounds like a battle report from a replay.. not much drama, but i guess it's pretty good.
