Artist's Block?
What's the best way to persevere and continue modeling, uv mapping, texturing, etc? I find that the easiest way to avoid it is to work on something else, but that isn't too useful, because then you may never finish the thing you started with. Also, it's merely avoiding it, not beating it.
Any good suggestions?

Re: Artist's Block?
Physical exercise as a counterweight to mental creativity.
Re: Artist's Block?
Not a terribly good suggestion. I work out a lot and have been sore every day since I got the perfect pushup.

You mean this? http://hundredpushups.com/
Re: Artist's Block?
No, I can easily do a hundred NORMAL pushups, generally 40-60 with the perfect pushup, though.
Burns a lot of things, even my abs get sore from doing a lot of pushups on those.
They also prevent unnecessary wear on your wrists.

Find yourself a minor modeling job in a community where plenty concept art is made for you to-rerender.
Re: Artist's Block?
That's a good idea. Actually, I may have some Liberation Day pics laying around, now that I've got the game working again thanks to old-games.ru. Maybe I'll make another one of those hi-poly models I make occasionally.

Better off spending it on dumbells, you can still do the deep dip off the floor with them, and they can also be used for curls, sittups, presses, squats, and shoulder lifts.
The rotation only really helps the wrist minorly, and is virtually irrelevant to any type of muscle work.
Re: Artist's Block?
if you have artist block draw, even if it is pointless greebles or tubes draw it out. After a while you will find your creativity will click.
Re: Artist's Block?
Well the perfect pushup is really good if you have Carpal tunnel syndrome, like some people do..
I tried the perfect pushup from a friend, i can do 1 handed pushups with it, but he also the same guy who put a bar thing on his door and the frame on the house broke.

Re: Artist's Block?
follow this simple process:
[*] download the CA svn
[*] do a search in the svn folder for "3do"
[*] choose one of the results at random and set about redoing it!
there you go

Re: Artist's Block?
Fail. Not everyone gives a shit about CA
I hear ya Snipa, went through the same thing just over a year ago. dont try forcing it, just look at cool stuff, play some other (preferably non-rts) games.
alternatively, try doing some real simple shit. like a truck, an apc and a helicopter, quality isnt the real issue with this, so just churn out a whole loada crap (but hang onto it, you may be able to rework it later for something) eventually you will get enough of the 'bad' ideas out of the way that you can start working on the 'good' ones :)

Not a problem dude.Snipawolf wrote:Thanks for the tip pressureline. I'll play some more day of defeat or something.
And I was serious about the modeling piles of random crap, dont think too hard about it, just model whats in the front of your mind at the time. And like I said, don't be overly concerned about quality (try to model stuff that isn't in your mods universe, so you can take a different approach to things) just try to clear out some of the ideas cluttering up your mind (if you're anything like me you see all sorts of stuff during a normal day that gives you ideas for what to model) so you can get back to what you really want to do.

Frequent masturbation might help as well

I heard that might also have an adverse effect on your eyesight ^_^

Also you will grow bristles from your palms.
I distract myself with the other joys the internet - like free games, movies and music - till I'm either fed up with that as well or motivation kicks back in.

Re: Artist's Block?
I find the best way is to model something that is already existing and has plenty of source material for it. Preferably for your own mod, but if you can't find it / it doesn't suit, I've at times done stuff for other mods. You don't have to think too creatively initially when you're starting, because everything is there in front of you. But once you get going you'll find a lot of ideas pop into your head (obviously model something enjoyable to make) and as your model starts to come together (also you get a confidence boost) things start to happen again.
