Spore thoughts.
Since I don't see the point of argh's thread, I figure it would be MORE INTERESTING to see what others thought of spore.
I played it and LOVED all of the creature building, the begining stage and the creature stage were AWESOME. I was disapointed with the tribal and civ stage...
so what say you springers?

I decided to play 'hard'
I got my ass whipped in Civ becuase everyone just wants to fire big guns at eachother. And my damn country is right in the middle of everything.
Its okay so far. Im just waiting till I hit the space.

Re: Spore thoughts.
The space is the worst part. unless you love fetch quests or something.
Re: Spore thoughts.
Building and evolving your creature from cell stage was fun. Tribal stage and onwards was mostly "meh".

I like the space stage, really.
It's fun to wipe out a civilization instead of doing stupid quests for them.
Also, spoiler: the Grox are EEEEEEEEEEVIL!

you guys seen this btw? :D scroll down.
Re: Spore thoughts.
people who are enjoying the game more likely to be playing it. Every major game release I have ever seen is met with massive bitching and moaning. It is part that the hype make it impossible for a game to live up to it and the other part is that people always expect more.
If you like the game I recommend buying it. I don't know why or how people are finding out about the drm thing, who would install the game 3 times within a week? And 159 of em?
Dude, 4chan can mobilize a better griefing.
*edit* jesus, soo much bitching about drm, they didn't bother actually reviewing the game instead it looks like there is some bullshit boycott because they have read about the drm. Why do people do this, it is like fucking howlers(see flame warriors).
I really hate gamers.

I call that voting with my money. I will not support a product or a company that wants to force me to use their software in a particular way. It's my computer and they have no business bullying me into installing (or rather, not uninstalling) their programs.
I'd probably never reach that 3 install limit, but it doesn't matter. I won't pay them for the ability to take away my freedom.

Re: Spore thoughts.
It installs a rootkit, that disables the task manager, a few hacks later and it works again, still, really stupid, windows task manager is a legal program and EA has no rights of disabling it!
Re: Spore thoughts.
Yet people install steam with no complaints. Steam takes away freedoms as well.

WHAT?!Hoi wrote:It installs a rootkit, that disables the task manager
Re: Spore thoughts.
Yes peet, it's really true, but it doesnt matter in some way becaus windows is a sort of a rootkit too (WTF I DONT WANT TO CLEAN UNUSED PICTOGRAMS ON THE DESK AND I DONT CARE ABOUT MAKING OFFICE A BETTER PROGRAM, GRRR!) or adobe updates which come back even when I remove it from msconfig.
The same thing happens with bioshock (never bought it, just read about it) appearantly EA said that the task manegar can check bioshocks behaviour (dunno why that is a bad thing) so they decided to hack systems to disable task manager

Re: Spore thoughts.
steam does it in a sane way. I can even install a game on a friend's box if I want to show it to him. I must admit that I'm guilty of buying Audiosurf, but $10 isn't $50.

Re: Spore thoughts.
I watched my brother play spore, and it is really cool. The making-everything-yourself element of the game does probably pay for some of the gameplay downfalls because it is so new. The one graphical thing i think was bad was the fact that turrets of vehicles just don't rotate.
The gameplay in general does lack depth at every stage. This is likely because they were aiming for the general public, and wanted to keep the designs of stuff free a lot. It is not necessarily bad, but i think it could use versions with more depth.
For instance, the design of creatures and objects would actually affect its qualities in ways other then just getting points would be cool. So would direct control of the creatures. Maybe a (multiplayer) 1v1 fighting mode :).
The rts mode could be improved to a full rts where you actually get multiple units you designed. That way you can make units to fill different roles yourself.

Disables might be a wrong word, but it's close.
