Spring on eee PC?

Post by gaspro »

Hi all,

Just wondering if the ultra portable eeePC by Asus would run spring... do you think it's possible?

there are already many games supported, look here:

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/list:games

look at this... quite impressive!! (Rome total war on it!)

Don't see why not ... a friend of mine runs the EEE with Ubuntu (custom Kernel) and Springs does OK on it ... not too well though, but he got it playable. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't compile & run on the Xandros distro. Just try it and tell us.

A special GUI configuration for 800*480 would have to be made I think.

Ok, so my house was broken into last week, and they took 3 of my laptops, including one EEE, but one EEE survived.

One secondhand 50 pound monitor later, and I have access to internet and stuff again :-)

Next question: does anyone happen to have Spring binaries for eeepc? I had a vague go at checking out the svn but ran out of disk space ;-)

there is no official binary packages for xandros, although, you could use the "universal" statically linked binary
http://spring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Other_distros_install

it might need a bit hacking with symlinks in the case your lib versions are different, but should be less burden than building from the sauce

EDIT: i skimmed over quicky on the wiki and i found this entry
Glest Only about 2fps on Xandros with software rendering but works OK on eeeXubuntu with DRI (The DRI driver on Xandros does not have the GL_ARB extension so will not work)
so I guess that you'd need to change distro in it to get HW acceleration support

Yeah I was thinking that. Unfortunately, "horse" and "bolted" spring to mind.

Do you have any thing to do this?
