AVG

So, they want us to pay for AVG soon. So what other free virus scanners for Windows are out there and recommended?

I use avira. The price to pay is one annoying popup every day or two, it's pretty good otherwise.

Avast.com

Free for life, and works perfectly with very low system resource usage.

You can instantly make yourself immune to 99% of all attacks using a very simple and easy method, it gives no performance hits, and under Vista its been shown to give anywhere between a 15-25% speed-up!

Its called running as a limited/standard user for everyday stuff rather than an admin account. If you need those admin privs there's always the 'run as' option

A router + the standard windows firewall and keeping upto date with windows update should fix the rest. Anything that gets through would probably get through even if antivirus was there, and anything that does get through got through because you were careless and did something you shouldn't, not because you had no antivirus.

I stand by my method of not running an anti virus. Works like a charm, no slow downs. Just stay off teh naughty websites and you'll be fine.

Not really antivirus, but Commodo Firewall is by far my favourite form of security.

Are you running windows? If so, can I have your email address and/or your IP?
