Suggestion for a second shadow system

Post by Gunthahaha »

Hi

In another free RTS called Glest, there are two different shadow systems: Projected or Shadowmaps.

I know Shadowmaps don't work because of my graphic card, so is it possible to do Projected shadows for those who can't have shadowmaps? :)

I think he means making shadows as OTA did... taking the model and duplicated it and making it black...

I guess it's posibole...

I gues they means stencil shadows with projected.

The difference is that stencil shadows are sharp and shadowmaps are pixelated.

Stencil shadows are made by extruding silhuette away from the point and stenciling contacting surfaces away.

Shadowmaps are done by rendering from light's view and getting the depth, then just projecting that texture on the scene.

Generally shadowmaps looks better in some situations when there are partly transparent textures used.

There are also planar shadows, but they are really old and they are not good in advance.

So, nobody is frustrated to not have shadows?

Remember the wonderful screens we can see from people who have it....
