Prometheus Spawning Grounds

Remember those top down images of TA units? Ever wanted to know more about who did them and where they came from? Or if there were more of them?

sheekel, you learned a lot.

Redo it to try and make it match this art. You will make an amazing model with what you learned. Consider it a chance to see how much just one model can teach you.

Goddamn, this deserves some attention. If we make new models to match that art + cegtag effects, we can achieve TA II basically here.

There's a lot more where that came from. Most of his website is hidden and inaccessible unless you give a direct url. Who knows what wonders may randomly pop up.

I've been in contact with him since 2005, he pops up asking about SWS every now and then...

You also missed a lot of the geometry on the body. Try to not to model it as 1 piece I think. Use more faces on the wheels.

Nice rattle. The only things I can see that are slightly different are that the geometry of the cockpit (the sides) is a little different. That might just be an aesthetic choice you made, which is fine. Also, you omitted some of the detail to the rear of the rocket turret. Personally, that strikes me as an important element of the mechanism.

Thanks.

I couldn't make out much on the picture for the launcher's exhaust. I agree, it's one the things you'll be looking at all the time and it should be prettier than just a deformed box. Will think of something.

Niklas on rattles recreation of the sam wrote:Pretty close! I think some of the vertical faces could be...
collapsed, as they're be hard to see from the top (esp the rear wheel
guard). The front looks a bit different with the square chunk taken
out. I meant for the metal thing at the front to be a
...'cow-catcher/bumper' as we call them. The wheels could be
simplified too maybe., they seem to be 3+8+8+8+8+3=38 quads now or
something. Maybe they could be 3+8+8+3=22 or less.

The Msl rack on my topdown image is not centered, and there's some
bumper/tech stuff at the back. Might make a drawing of it some time.

Get me a topdown/side sketch of it and you're going to get an accurate model. Wheels 76 tris each by the way.

There should be a top down version in the big image of all the arm units at psg.

More comment from Niklas wrote:Also, two things which aren't immidiately gettable when looking this
single concept image I did, is that:

I already mentioned, but the Arm sometimes use asymmetrical designs
(which manifested in the turret offset on this one, and the rear top
of the vehicle is asymmetrical too). I scribbled a note about that in
the factions table on my page.

This is more subtle, but the Core has a long 'head' (cockpit/sensors,
whatever, I think of it as the head), so the 'head' on the Arm Sam
should probably be more chubby/bulky to avoid looking Core.
It should be noted that these concept images aren't of classic Total Annihilation, they're set 9 thousand years after the OTA era, in a time line where core contingency never occurred and things went quit differently. Hence why some units were never redesigned at all and some entirely new units appeared, while other units look quite different in design.

I need both a top down AND side sketch. Oh well, rear isn't asymetrical now but I'm done with it anyway. It's pretty close and about 910 tris.
