waypoint system.

Post by vital »

I was wondering if a waypoint system that you can edit is doable in spring or via LUA.
I mean, like in supcom or red alert 2, it would be cool if we can move the points of the patrol and remove points that are unneeded (like a con gaurding a factory that will not move if you queue him orders, that's very annoying).
thanx in advance :-)

That already exists, and has done for a very long time, I think since OTA itself. You simply repeat the exact same command to delete it from the queue; eg You set one unit to assist with the guard command, you then queue up some new orders for that same unit, and then you use the guard command again to cancel and let it start the new queue without ever interrupting it.

you can remove a waypoint but not move one ... being able to move waypoints would be great

Yes you can, albeit it's slightly more difficult as the hit area is smaller.

Mmm, I don't think this was quite what he was after.

In SupCom you can move points on the fly, so that say you make 5 move orders (or patrol orders) in concession on the map. Holding shift shows all of those move orders. In SupCom, you can hover your mouse over any of the move waypoints, and drag any of those waypoints in any order to a new location, and they will immediately respond.

It's a very clever and intuitive system, particularly helpful for patrols and transport drops (where you can quickly adjust the transport drop area by dragging it to a new location, rather then having to reissue the order).

I'm not sure how that might be accomplished, but I believe it could be done.

Note the drag 'n drop widget:
(I don't know if it's been updated for 0.75b1, or if it even needs to be)

So, it is a lua based solution? Rocking, I thought that first when I read the thread.

With the addition of CMD_INSERT / CMD_REMOVE network commands,
and the unique command tags, it should be a lot easier to do this in 0.75b1.
The unique command tags should also make it easier to move factory build
queue items around in a drag and drop fashion.
