Earth : Eternal Struggle, a 32x32 map.

Post by Buggi »

Earth: Eternal Struggle
32x32

Time for my second Earth related map!

This sucker is the REASON I programmed a new conversion program. I'm glad too because this map is STUNNING.

Okay, so I'm a little bias. Here are some shots:

Europe

Minimap?

Want it?
http://www.epicedit.com/maps/EternalStruggle.zip (28 megs)

It has 8 starting points and plenty of room to grow. And enough trees to make you hope the wind blows towards your enemy.

I wanted to finalize the fog and stuff but without knowing exactly the results I didn't want to endlessly tweak the SMD.

Enjoy!

I just tried this with MiniSpring...and yow o_O!!

All units are one half the size, effectivly doubling (!) the size and scale of this map.

I can't wait to play a game on it.

Trees give pathfinding problems for some units (peewees can't make their way through the jungles of Africa) but overall, its fantastic.

Amazing job.

Edit: I had the size wrong, thanks W_Z

Excellent stuff, although there's some flaws as I see it:

-Less trees please: not only does it lag like hell (And I got a rather fast comp), it's not really realistic, especially not with the trees in the arctic. just cut down the density a bit so we can make out the lovely terrain.
-Brighter fog: Currently it seems way too blue, especially for those desert areas. Make it alot brighter, same goes for the sky.

Other than that it's fabelous work. GJ.

Tweak the SMD colors to your hearts content. I don't even think these are sync'ed so it should look the best you think it should.

I wanted a more yellow sun, but still haven't found the right color combo for that. @@;;

Oh! And the first to find the monkey wins extra cool points!! My only hint is he is NOT underwater.

For trees, decrease your tree LOD, yes there are a lot of trees, you should have seen it when greenland was COVERED in trees. The map looked hairy. I tweaked, and retweaked until I was happy with the number of trees. They take only moments to burn down.

My biggest criqtique is with teh scale of mountains. In short, it is non-existent. IMHO, the mountains could have been exaggerated more. Although i like what you did with the cliffs of the south american coastline :)

he's making an obscure hitchiker's guide to the galaxy referance.

which is fine, if you post something useful along with it o_O!

anywho...the mountains could be more defined, but MiniSpring doubles the hieght of them, so they seemed fine to me >.>

Updated!

Two new versions. I pretty much doubled the heights of the mountains, very majestic now.

But I also created a version of the map with a very "barren" setting. 1000 features versus 50,000 features :D

Regular

Few Features

I also tweaked endlessly with the SMD settings and got the sun location & color, and fog color looking much better.

Consider these my final versions. ^_^

Buggi, in your updated versions the regular copy of the map seems to be missing the proper .sm2 in the zip file.

As in the zip file for the normal version contains eternalstruggle.smd and eternalstrugglebarren.sm2 so i don't have the sm2 to go with the smd
