paint shop pro can create images 32767x32767 so I was going to see if I could use 2 32767x32767 images together combining them into one large image, now if I can find some software to do that with the ram i've ordered I may get it to 128x64

any suggestions for the mars metal patches?

I've currently set the metal map to fully extractable at 7 per mex.

If anyone want's to do one the size needs to be 2048x1024

Planetary maps can be made more interesting with a bit of artistic license. Nevermind scaled heightmaps; I don't want the himalayas or Olympus Mons to be little bumps in the road!

with buggi's new map compiler i made a 32x32 map with just Olympus Mons and surrounding area showing what the mars map would look like full sized

give your comments
the heightmap is not edited (eg blurred) only trimmed down to the area shown

Aren't your tiles backwards?

:(

New version ready, and I'm trying to create a program to flip the tiles around. Stupid bitmaps!

Awesome, with some minor adjustment to the heightmap and texture map this could be extremely impressive.

If anyone has suggestions to improve the texture as i'm currently enlarging a 8192x4096 by 800%

I can't blur a 16384x16384 (32x32) image with my current system setup

It's now possible to fly an aircraft through the canyon

TARevenger follow this link for a highres mars texture:

ftp://ftpflag.wr.usgs.gov/dist/pigpen/m ... im_64c.jpg

64 pixels per degree ie 23040x11520

It will need a little bit of manual retouching as there are areas of the map that are filled with low quality data (areas for which high res data was missing), but it shouldn't be too much trouble.

Hope it helps.

Don't just blindly follow the height map, mind. Don't be afraid to take a bit of artistic license, and extrude/stretch valleys and mountains to make the terrain more impressive.

Yeah, seeing as its the focal point of the map, one would assume it would be approximately three times bigger (especially taller) than what you see there. That's a large hill; Olympus Mons towers over the himalayas.
