geforce 8800 error ?

I got these render errors when i tried to play at 1920*1200 resolution. Is there something i can do to prevent this, and is the developers aware of a such problem?

I got that way back in the day when i upgraded to a Radeon 9800xt from a Geforce4.

There are two possible solutions, one is cheaper than 2

1) Make sure you have proper ventilation and cooling to your motherboard and gpu

2) Your motherboard may need to be replaced. (The cooling solution only solved my problem temporarily, i had to get a new mobo for a perminant solution.)

3) this is kind of a shot in the dark, but how big is ur power supply and is enough juice getting to ur videocard?

I think my computer is fine, since it has not shown any corruption in graphics in any other game than spring. And i have played lots of games.

Spring runs fine with 1280*1024 at this computer, but turning it up to 1920*1200 causes that funky shit ^^

Try some different water and shadow modes (can be switched in-game by typing /shadows 0|1, /water 0|1|2|3 (where '|' means "or")).

Yes, switching the water to one step from full down got rid of the problem. It does though repeat if i type the water command again to get sm3 water.

Erm can you elaborate? (ie. fill in the numbers after /water)

0 - basic water
1 - reflective water
2 - dynamic water
3 - reflective+refractive water

those 8800's seem to have problems with certain mobo's, by not meeting the PCI-e standard. Could that be the problem?

All but water 2 works fine. Water 2 also speedwise work fine, but with those graphical glitches.

BvDorp ? Where can i find the info about 8800's not meeting pci-e specifications? Kinda hard to believe that the next gen of graphics cards by nvidia would fail to meet specifications?

What i know is that these first drivers that are released are still somewhat work-in-progress and in certain situations updating to the latest beta has helped wit that problem, only creating different new ones.

I'm not installing a beta driver on my system, so i guess i will have to play with /water 3 until spring gets fixed or nvidia throws in new drivers that allow a bit more playroom for the software coders.

What do you developers think is going on here? By just looking at the errors, you can say something about whats going wrong in the calculations (at what point?) ?

Is this a bug in the drivers or in spring? Since it only shows upp with a custom resolution, i would suspect its something the coders of sm3 water have not come to think of when writing the code - iow. a bug ?

Its probably just a driver thing, I have read that there are many bugs in it atm.

he meant the motherboard nto the card hawkki, some motherboards dont implement the full pci-e standard correctly.

The PCI-e problem seems not to exist, for Nvidia announced the certification of the G80 chip. However, as jcnossen said, there are some serious driver issues. Some info here: http://www.msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=19159

The comment on how some motherboards have 16x slots but only 8x physical lanes would sum it up fine.
I assume they mean a 16x physical slot, with only 8 data lanes wired, as was the case in many early SLI/Crossfire boards. Those chipsets had no more than 20 lanes total, so you could have 16x for single graphics or two 8x for dual graphics. Graphics cards at the time did not take advantage of the increased bandwidth, so there was no downside to splitting the bandwith among two cards.

This is apparently where 8800 has a problem.

I'm running a 8800GTX too and I can confirm that the drivers seem to be crap.

I have even more severe problems, such as system hang (followed by nv4_disp.sys BSOD) that happens quite frequently when a game is launched and sometimes sporadically as well.

Moreover, I have an ugly graphics artifact: gray boxes displayed around distant units.

Well, my system is kind of special (dual quad-core xeons, windows 2003 server) so I can understand that the driver need to mature a bit.

If anyone else has the system-hang-at-game-start problem with 8800GTX I can recommend the unofficial 96.89 beta driver - it solved the problem nicely.
