Well i always thought a cool race would be a race that had mainly units that paralyzed and captured, then you can take apart the tech of the other race's and combine it!!!!! .... See i alsway's imagiended it like so

Cut away to Zoombie's twisted imagination: A convoy of tanks trundes through a vally. Suddenly a emp blast... blasts the escort and a bunch of K-bot rush in, take over the tanks and run like hell back to their underground base. Then they recombined the tank parts into different desigens.

See the trick to this race would be take, run, hide. If the other team's find you then they will out number you AND out firepower you. But once you steal one or two nuke's...

NOTE: It was actualy Victor von Freinkeistine that created the mosnster, but for some reson his name became the name of his monster. I HAVE no idea how that happnened.

Rhyos and TLL look very decent!

But maybe we need to get advice from some1 who really is in the "lawsuits" scene hehe

i mean be honestm how cool would it be if we could get away with using the TA content..

I'd be delighted to have Rhyoss, Rumad and TLL instead of Arm and Core being shipped with Spring.

For info, TLL has much more naval units than arm and core. Rhyoss too has a complete naval line. Only Rumad navy needs to get more units. But, save for Rumand Navy, these three races are the most complete TA races around there, each of them being even more complete than Arm and Core.

All three of these races come with custom textures. I'll expand that line:
- The Lost Legacy uses custom TLL textures
- Rumad uses custom Alpha Textures
- Rhyoss uses custom Rhyoss Textures

I'm not sure about custom sound. There seem to be some custom .wav in their rev31.gp3, but very few. And I think they're not custom sounds but just the Necro sound.

It doesn't mean we can download these race and straight away plug them into TA. Much work is needed, to:
- Find their authors, see if there are interested in helping, or at least get their approval. M.A.D. TA has been dormant for a few years now, but once in a while Rampage and Brother Alpha post in TAU or PA forums. Maybe Spring could give them the will to resume working on Rumad? M3G was very busy with TLL last year, but he hasn't given sign of activity since. Maybe just because he realised that TLL is finished? Surely he'll like to port TLL to spring himself. (No I don't want Reynald to take over TLL, seeing what he's done to TAAN). As for Rhyoss, I don't even know who made it.
- Fix the scripts, fbi, weapons, and every other things that works differently in Spring. Sound easy like that, but it's actually a huge task. We'll probably even need the Swedish Yankspanker help for that. To speed up you could just temporarly disable the units not working in first release, hoping most of units work fine.
- In conjunction with work on the Spring sourcecode, create appropriate weapons graphic effects. Because the custom explosion .gaf can't be reused in Spring.
- Hunt down the TA textures that remains in use and produce replacement. Because even if these races come with custom textures, I'm not certain they only use those custom textures.
- Create new sounds. Or simply use Mynn's ones.
- Create a Rumand navy. The difficulty lying in ensuring it's rumad-style. But bah, if 1/3 of races is a bit lacking in the sea units in the first release, it's no big deal. Let's just call it a balancing to compensate for better other units and making races more different from each other.
- Make sure the balance is consistent between races. For instance, damagemodifier against planes. Bad exemple since Spring doesn't use TA damagemodifier system, but you get the idea.
- Make sure it's playable, and tweak the units so it's fair and balanced. But without wasting all the energy into forum flaming, and without betraying the original races.

Still, even if it'll require much work, it'll be much easier and quicker than starting new races from scratch once again. Another strong point in using Rhyoss, Rumad and TLL is that each of these three races has a unique style, coherent within the race but much different to other races. That's a big advantage over trying to make arm and core replacment from a patchwork of stray units. Also, they are already a complete line of units, with factories, commanders, level 1 units, mexxes, etc... Most third party units are level 2 or level 3 attack units, third party level 1 windgens are very rare! And these 3 races are of the highest quality.

A quick look into free_mynn3.hpi seem to show it indeeds use its own set of textures and sound. Other races use custom sounds, but only Mynn seem to have replaced things like metal extraction sound, autodestruction sound, selection sound, etc... So using Mynn is probably the easiest way to get a 100% cavedog-material-free race. However, Mynn units are very low poly, so even if I like them, they won't look good in Spring. Still, in case you need sound replacement, ask Chris Jorgensen aka Xenoclone and use Mynn sound.

Those mods look awesome. I hope we can contact the authors to get their permission to use the models. 8)

I just talked to M3G, and he said that if anyone wants to fix up Mynn to get it Spring-compatible, they can go for it.

duh!
multile selectable races in lobby...
(is there a droll e-icon?)

- Automatic race balance comparation. (in game).
- Weekly new units and rebalance (for balance issues).
- Multyple races.
-

i think we should need a way to measure the units...
taking into account m/e/[dmg/sec] maybe? (cost engine?).
some general rules for race developers maybe..
This way you cant make uber cheap lvl1 kroggyes.

i wonder how does (ota)Arm-Core rate against (xta)Arm-core (flamable)

is there such comparation? or xta is in differet power scale?

(AA)Arm vs (xTA)Core ?

or maybe AA is in different power scale too...
anyhow i would love to try to destroy uber bot invasion with my trusty pyros, golliaths, Dominators, Zumos...

Have you talked to M3G about The Lost Legacy or have you talk to Chris Jorgensen about Mynn? Cause it's mixed up in your post.

I mailed Chris Jorgensen about Mynn and I think he wil release Mynn under the GPL.
I asked him if he could update http://www.xenoclone.com/mynn.cfm so it's clear that Mynn is actualy avalible under the GPL.

Might I just add my opinion in the matter?

I think that "we" (as in community, I would be more then willing to contribute although I can't do it alone) should start making an "offical" mod, from what I have seen and from what computers can do today we could accompish much better looking and feel compaired to the old TA models (and most of it's mods) since we have a completely 3d camera and not top-down like TA the *looks* of the units and structures look really out of place is what I have noticed. We could create a game around this engine with TA *like* gameplay with alot of improvments instead of trying to remake the wheel we could experiment and try something new in the *spirit* of total annilation with updated gameplay, graphics, sound, and really make it an enjoyible experiance.

So we have a plan, make a team, get it all sus'd out what we are going to do from the very beginning. Write up a whole design doc, get the creaters involved. You can create a movement but it has to have the spark of energy in the first place to start the process. Think outside the box, create something new, the will of the one does not out do the will of the many. This is what open-source is about guys, have you forgotten that in your differences of opinions. If there would be enough people involved it could be done but really it's up to the people themselfs if they want to move forward or if they want to stay in the past. I am all for objections to ideas it helps the process move along but someone needs to have the final say, a leader, the man with the image of what it is there all trying to create. I am not say you all have to be followers, what I am saying is that differences need to be put aside sometimes for progress to move forward.

It would go like this: people would flamewar in the forum over how much a particular point must be improved while the others would scream how much it'll ruin the gameplay. Then, at some point, someone would all alone do a better looking mod. Every forumers will post how great it is. But after a while the thread will die and be forgotten. Then a new guy will restart all anew. All the while, the SY will continue to release Spring with the exactly the very same taenheter.ccx. How do I know it will go like this? Because it already happened!

Oh yeah?! That's pritty sad. To tell the truth, theres alittle something about working together that most people don't know. It's the one thing you have to know in any relationship, comprimise. Although I do get your point, it still could be done. But I guess the TA community isn't ready for change and never will be, I guess it will just fall into disarray and slowly sifen out. Relying on one man to do everything that is nesscary isn't the way to go. Maybe in due time they will be ready, although I believe people need to get off there soap box and surcome to reality sometimes. But if no-one can work together for the greater good. It sounds kinda like the politics of today and the users being the united states government. People with differences in opinion are always welcome but the ones who shout "THIS SUCKS" rather then say "Well, thats cool and all but I think there is a better way. As in providing alternitives for the people to discuss. So we can reach an agreement of where *almost* everyone is happy. What would I like to see in a mod in the *spirit of TA?*.

Well for starters.

Greater Emphisis on Fortification.

More tactical movement stratagy, like flanking the enemy, setting up ambushes, forifiting certain key areas. I found TA to be alot of Build alot of troops as quick as possible and send them torwards the enemy. Not alot of setting up lines and targeting key places on the map. But of course thats my personal opinion I am sure alot of you will disagree with me.

A bigger tech tree with more varity of units with special abillitys.

But hey that's what I think, but if your all turned off to the idea then you remind me of another forum I used to be on where no one got anything done and it was all about what someone could do better then someone else..

Peace

w00t! Democracy doesn't work in open source because no one would get anything done, and a Republic doesn't work because of strong differences of opinion... so it's "Elect Your Dictator", we can call him an Emperor to make everyone feel better. Throw your allegience behind someone and they will be the final say on all decisions of design... and a strong leader will get everyone to do their job...
