Download!!! Now http://www.fileuniverse.com/?page=showitem&ID=829

I decided of shoot off into space and give mars a little visit.

here are a few photos I took !!Updated!!

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ahayes25/T ... /Mars1.jpg

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ahayes25/T ... /Mars3.jpg
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ahayes25/T ... /Mars4.jpg
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~ahayes25/T ... /Mars5.jpg

32x16 is the current size configured for 4 players

needs major tweaking on the metalmap, sky colour and heightscale.
one nice little feature would be sandstorms!

Sweet :-) Thats awesome the third image looks like Terra Meridiani,
did you get that image from the Mars Global Surveyor site, they have a ton of imagery just waiting to become spring maps..

I'm also downloading the earth texture and heightmap for miniearth @ 56k

as for epic size maps the max I can do at the momment is 32x sized maps.
not enough PC power

Nice one.... Although "minimars" doesn't really fit a map of those proportions...

Texture needs a ton of work in regards to quality/detail/uniformity. Such images of celestial entities are "patchworked" together, so as you can see, there's some very obvious seams along there, as well as the texture resolution and quality being in need of serious retouching. It look alright now, it'll look GREAT once you get those issues fixed.

dragon, I don't think his texture did that. I looks more like a bug that happens on some cards when you zoom way out. It happens on mine. I know it must happen to others.

I have a good heightmap for a full earth map sized at 64x32

problem is my pc isn't powerful enough for that sized texture

if anyone wants it give me a yell

a note about the texture is that in paint shop pro the mars texture is heaps better than what it looks like in spring so it's getting messed up during compiling.

i'll recompile it with the latest mapconv if it supports 32x16 textures

Edit: just recompiled with the new mapconv and still looks the same as the screenshots

64x32?

How much memory do you have? I have a gig :-/

I think there's a limitation in mapconv actually as it seems to load 3 copies in memory.

I updated the screenshots

modified the map to have a mars feel and adjusted the gravity to what should be mars gravity

is 140 gravity setting in other maps earth gravity?

That'd be an image 65536 x 32768

Photoshop won't let me increase an images dimensions past 30000...

Wow, I pity the poor machine that has to chug through that @@;;

I know that much of mars is flat like the map you posted, but it also has some of the most amazing mountain ranges, valleys and volcanos imaginable.

I should hope that further maps on Mars take advantage of this...

Heh, yeah, Olympus Mons is pretty tiny there... (it's about the size of France)... at least it's taller than a commander, though... I don't think planetary maps really work at the scale spring can currently handle, it'd probably be best to stick with specific interesting regions for now.
