New Minimap Controls

Post by Argh »

Hey... right-clicking on the Minimap isn't moving the camera around, in the builds I've been testing. Is a new bind setup required, or is this a bug? Otherwise the new GUI totally rocks... I only wish I had enough spare time to play with customizing it for NanoBlobs... maybe I'll get to that this month.

Release 0.74b1 has several modifications to the minimap, the most
notable being the ability to use it to send unit commands. There are
2 basic modes in which it can be configured:

3-Button / (full-proxy)
LEFT: select units (including selection box)
MIDDLE: center the view
RIGHT: perform default command

2-Button / (not full-proxy)
LEFT: select a single unit
MIDDLE: no function
RIGHT: center the view

The default is MiniMapFullProxy=1 (3-Button mode)

Here is a list of the new config parameters (with default settings):

Code: Select all

MiniMapButtonSize=16
MiniMapCursorScale=-0.5
MiniMapDrawCommands=0
MiniMapFullProxy=1
MiniMapGeometry=2 2 200 200
MiniMapIcons=1
MiniMapMarker=1
MiniMapUnitExp=0.25
MiniMapUnitSize=2.5
Edit: Apparently the next release will be 0.74b1 (not 0.73b2)

Great. I really liked then I noticed that you could move the window by clicking on the minimap since in the last RTS I played (Age of empires 2) I couldnt do it because one of the buttons of the mouse I was using was broke and so I needed to play with a single button (irritating but possible) and that way I couldnt use the minimap to move the window around...

Lol! I missed the part where it said you can issue commands via the minimap. I've been waiting for that feature since Spring was first released!.

Yeah but remember that you cant see wich unit you are moving by the minimap, and may finish up sending a constructor bot or a commander to the front line!

O_o did u ever play OTA? I queue stuff on the minimap all the time in OTA. The main use is to get units moving in the right direction without having to make a full queue. Then you fill in the queues a bit later.

And, with custom icons, and a MiniMap you can scale/maximise/minimize with key commands... you can now tell what's what. The new GUI rules.

Note the minimap highlight for the current selection, and
the highlight for the unit that is being pointed at. Also check
the tooltip bar, it shows the unit that is being pointed at.

There are no hotkeys for minimap control.

It would not be hard to do, it just hasn't been done yet.

In the meantime, "toggleoverview" may meet your needs (defaults to TAB).

Now there are actions available for binding:

/minimap icons [0|1]
/minimap fullproxy[0|1]
/minimap drawcommands [0|1]
/minimap unitexp <value>
/minimap unitsize <value>
/minimap minimize [0|1]
/minimap maximize [0|1]
/minimap geometry <x y width height>

I've been told that 0.74b1 is going to use SVN rev 2684.
The changes to add the new actions are in r2686/r2687,
just a little too late...

I'm glad so many people like this... BUT is it any way to make camera center on left mouse button (or right mouse button) ?

My middle mouse button is the scroll and it is not very nice to click it. And anyhow I do not like it. :-)

You get used to center mouse real quick actually. Spec a few games where you have to do a lot of moving around by the minimap and you will be fine. **Waits for I told you so from trepan** :P

Thanks for the help, I didn't read carefully all the posts. I switched to the old style for now. (or now - with linux version I mean - I can hack the code and do it as I like.. :twisted: . But of course I do not have time :( )

But anyhow I asked if I can I have something like this:

- left mouse - center view
- right mouse - issue an order.

@LordMatt Yes I understand for many people it's ok. it's just that a have a mouse that doesn't have a nice middle button.
