TA Spring Strategy

Post by CatalyticPrefect »

Does anyone have any strategic advice to share? I'm sick of getting owned every game and replays can only teach you so much.

Play something other than XTA. Plenty of good mods out there.

try spectating a few games with other people, it allows you to see everyones strategies.

Or better yet, play a shared-commander game with someone better than you, and they can teach you things (sometimes inadvertantly [sp?])

Or just go with Napalms advice

Hmm I think recordings pretty much show the entire story. Also look at the XTA strat guide in the mods section.

Ic alwaysd wondered What was Wrong with XTA? I dont have much expirence with it, so im confuzed. AA i like though, what with the coolieo Titan class Krogoth sized units that can devistate everything around them.... mmmm titans! TAFF is also a favorit of mine, but the textures are skrewy and it needs some reworking from Spring. But once it dose....<walksaway hummin the TA theam>

here is a strat...

get a metal extractor, a solar collector, then severel more metal extractors, then two more solar collectors.

Get a vehicle plant or kbot lab. Build a construction kbot and send him on a long trip, using the shift key, around your quarter of the map claiming every metal deposit. At your lab or plant, que up a variety of combat units.

Get a few more solar collectors.

Build the opposite one that you got before, i.e. Kbots or Vehicles, and get another construction unit and then que up more combat units at the new facility.

With the construction unit you just built, get a sentinel. While that is happening, get a radar tower with your commander.

using your combat units, attack the nearest base. The best way of managing formations is to set the kbot lab or vehicle plant to a number, then all the units it builds will also be of that group. Just be careful not to put your construction units into groups by mistake. (done that one SO many times!)

Get an advanced vehicle plant and choose three good units, i.e. for arm I go bulldog, penetrator, panther. que up a few of these, and get the commander to help.

Remember, early in the game, a few level 2 tanks (or kbots, but they are harder to use properly) can win you the game, absolutly crushing your opponents defences.

tip: After you have a decent number of level 2 units, stop building level 1. They cost to much compared to their power.

THats everything I have worked out about XTA spring in the last week. enjoy, and remember to improvise, too (i.e. air cover, nukes, krogoths, artillery, crawling bombs, fusions where no one would expect them etc.)

I have played a number of 2v2 / ffas and the most important thing that just about anyone I have played is missing is that you must expand and raid early. Since most ppl just like to sit in their little corner i can usually just expand all over the map and kill them before they even notice each other in a 4ffa on the mars map.

Having been victimized by SJ, subsequently employing some of his methods with success, I can with confidence support the notion that early raiding/annoying of opponent production, as well as spreading on the map is key to performing well. Denying the opponent access to large parts of the map (and thereby resources) through judicious use of mine layers, large terrain coverage with radar and mixed defensive structures, and small pockets of unit "strike teams" placed around the map will stall opponent resource-production while allowing you to quickly advance your own. This allows you to finish the opponent off with a destructive method of your own choice...

There's a great quote about the whole map being your base, you just have to replace all the enemy dots with your own dots, but I forget its exact wording...

Anyway, I suggest visiting a number of the OTA strategy pages, as much of what is there still applies to Spring.

Its all about mass production. The more territory you hold, the more metal patches you have. The more metal patches you have, the more plants you can afford to run. The more plants you can afford to run, the more units you have.
Of course, once you get the units, its a different question. But just getting as many units on the field as you can is half the strategy.

Conversely, the reverse applies for your enemy. The more territory you withhold from him, through raiding or tense pitched battles, the less units he can afford to throw at you, which turns the battle in your favour.

If you're finding that the battle is turning against you, and you are ceding ground, don't forget to use his wreckage to power your war machine! Its the ultimate in war "freebie"!

i play but 2 rules. make sure that the opponents allow 5 minutes of build time and i always prioritise on building resource collecting stuff. then i can easily build plenty of factories which results in me having a numeric superiority. i also prefere aircraft over ground stuff coz most people build ground vehicles which cant shoot down aircraft. plus i can get aircraft into an area i want them to be quicker then kbots and tanks.

Hmm I think AA has too many units. OTA was already pretty crowded and had a unit for about everything.

For shooting over DT and wrecks, and for invading the other side when playing core on Lusch Puppy. No really, Thuds do are useful, they are the best choice for cluttered battlefield.

never lost a an online game in OTA although i haveo nly played against 2 or 3 dousen people (school friends) i can say that i have played more then 150 hours online in OTA  so i doubt u can say those are bad choices. remember airpower is good, thats why most strategy games have air units so weak because if they were only half as powerful as ground units (in reality an aircraft packs a punch many times more then a group of tanks and infantry) then no one would build ground units.

First, giving them build time is a mistake, if they're a half decent player, they'll be expanding that entire time, giving them signifigantly greater production than you

Second, what's to stop them from building more factories?
Also, building more factories is foolish because of the metal/production ratio...factories are very expensive, and for the cost of one factory you can easily get the same production power with cons..and that production power is mobile.

Third, almost all OTA games today are won by samson/slasher or hawk swarms. Think about that.

Yes, aircraft are faster, but they're more expensive, and considerably weaker than tanks or kbots.

Play a game on PW or Zone sometime, or even just a game of OTA in spring.

Iv always been trashed by air, so invest helavly in flackers. But oh my stratigy. Build Defences ontop of Defences. Turrets, Artillery, antiswarms, anti-antiswarms extera. If it is varied and strong enough then you can build stuff at your lesure. And make sure to get A BB or Indimidator first, cause they kick ass and are a pain when your at the reciving end of their fireing
