You just dont understand the GRAVITY of the situation

Post by Zoombie »

hahahahahaha how every punny. Im just wondering if you can set the gravity of the maps. And if you can can you set a map with zero gravity? I want to make a spaceship map, useing the metal map terain. It would be a ship wrekage, left over from the early parts of teh TA war. So it would have multiple parts of it and wrekage floting evert where and some sutch stuff. So youd be stuck with lasers and EMG's rather than any plasma or arching projectiles. Also i would change the water's texture (if that is possible) to a star field. It would be a cool and original map.

Actually I do understand the gravity of the situation. Yes you can alter the gravity of a map. If not in the editor (which I doubt), then in the maps smd file with notepad (which I doubt is necessary, see previous doubt).

Was it too difficult for you to use Notepad.exe to set the gravity value of some .smd to 0 before creating a new thread about? I would have been much more interesting to try for yourself then post the result, than to just asking for someone to do it for you. How hard can it be to use notepad?

Having a gravity set to precisely 0 cause spring to crash everytime you start building a ballistic unit. I guess you'll hav to go for micro-gravity instead of absolute zero gravity. With some luck low enough values can feel like there's no gravity while having enough for the engine not to crash.

Currently the water surface is /bitmaps/ocean.jpg, the same for all maps. It isn't shaded or anything, it's the same blue texture for evey map.

This idea will be stolen. I deny you any right of claiming it as yours.

Using a very small value for gravity will only influence ballistics and weapons. It will not cause units to float in the air. Spring will not support space maps until someone makes something that can actually do this.

But it will make units "lighter" and therefore will fly further when stuff blows up next them.

REALY! What map, where how when what why?
Also i have barly started to dabble in the mysteries of map making
Two I dont want the units to flote because if they are fighting on a sip they would use magnettig botes to stay connected to the ground. Also TAFF DOSENT have no gravity for soem reson. The ships fly into the ground when you destroy the. And Their are original idea's, you just havent thought of them yet. Also im not very computer savvy for some reson. Iv owned it for about ten years and i still dont get half as much as my friend who owned his for seven. But it is still a cool map

Actually the TA:FF units "sink", because they're an amalgamam of both Aircraft AND Ship code. ;)

Oh... i always though it was because their was gravity? So if a ship wasent coded with the need to sink by the script then it wouldent sink? Wird!

Sorry, slightly off-topic here but zwzsg posted:

Couldn't this be a solution to the lava map port problems encountered with Lava Highground? Release another ocean.jpg with lava maps and say "thou shalt use this if you want you lava to look hot"? And dont forget to change it back. Maybe include a .bat to shuffle ocean.jpg files around for them.
... Actually... red trees anyone? For either weird mars type maps, or autumn.
Just a thought.

Forgive me if this has been done and I just haven't seen it yet.

I'm thinking, maybe a slowdown tag to slow down units that're flying from explosions, to prevent thigns like, bomb sent comamnder flying a few mintues agoa nd its so far away off map I dont know where it is, and neither can win cus the 2 thigns are flying off map somewhere......
