Re: Random WIP
You didn't watch the video. However, I'll explain it to silence the frustrating you are apparently feeling. That is not clipping. that is the groundring, part of the groundflash ceg effect. It isn't clipping. that is the hard edge of an actual graphic.d-gun wrote:I added arrows to show what I mean. see where theres a hard edge? the texture is getting cut off where it meets the terrain. i've seen this in pretty much every asplosion in spring...its quite distracting

so the thing you thought was clipping is an actual effect working as intended. Except I said that I wanted to remove it and posted a HD video on youtube showing the new version..
ha ha ha proper sprites. spring's weapon system is retarded and we have only certain visuals for certain weapon types. Pretty damn annoying imo.rattle wrote:explosions look good but isn't it time to replace the bullet models with proper sprites?
Re: Random WIP
I don't think you quite understand still what he is meaning by clipping, Smoth.

Re: Random WIP
what he was pointing out was the groundring.

Re: Random WIP
He is pointing out the explosion graphic and how many of them are half-submerged with the ground. Nothing to do with the groundring at all. Are you stoned?
Re: Random WIP
I see what you are saying and seem to not care
damn clipping, it is 2011 you would think the real world would have fixed that.

Re: Random WIP
Your original reasoning for using models instead of sprites were that the units wouldn't fire when features were in the way. That hasn't been a problem for a long time. The only other possible reason could be ballistic behavior, but the shots are traveling so fast that ballistic or not, it really doesn't matter because the trajectory is still pretty much flat.smoth wrote:ha ha ha proper sprites. spring's weapon system is retarded and we have only certain visuals for certain weapon types. Edit: After random pm in the lobby informing that that wasn't the reason for going to Cannon weapontype..
Well then what was it? We both know that lasers are by far the easiest weapon to control in spring, and the only thing that sucks is the fact that they can't be ballistic.
Re: Random WIP
Light bleeds.
In the real works, light doesn't just stop suddenly near the ground. it has this nice fuzzy edge. You can see that in smoth's photo.
Some selective bloom on the bottom of the explosion sprite would mask this nicely. Any way to do that in Lua?

This is what I thought he meant with clipping:

Re: Random WIP
that is the heat cloud sprite, also removed in the final version which can be seen in the video.
this isn't me trying to find a favorable shot just the last shot I took.
also spring is already expensive as it is. All these shaders add up mid.

bloom would remove the contrast in colors. Considering our already ugly additive blend I don't want to see the colors lost even more. A bit of glow could help a bit but I have been asking for glow for years now.MidKnight wrote:Some selective bloom on the bottom of the explosion sprite would mask this nicely. Re: Random WIP
those are changes to groundflash... I am not sure what that has to do with heatcloud.

Here's finished product of my old M41 I was showing awhile ago
Re: Random WIP
Spike, if you do a Vietnam-mod, how do you handle the assymetric aspect? Its tough to make realism, with a enemy whos main strongpoint was his ability to hide and use traps.. i can tell having done some similar balancing attempts myself..

I'm not involved with gameplay and balancing, I just do models

Question: From what game/platform is it? Call Of Duty? Or Spring?SpikedHelmet wrote:Here's finished product of my old M41 I was showing awhile ago
