Unique Transportation

Just a thread, brainstorming on ways of movement, that are not them legs, them wheels, them hovering or flying(with wings). Also not in this topic by any means, boring giant robots, lets admit it, they are a geeky way of showing that you hate the society&city around you and your place within, and would if you had the chance, take a stomping amokwalk through it.

Example:

GrabblinHooker: Moving a Unit by means of shooting a harpoon and then using the rope to move towards the targeted area.
Pro: + extreme mountaineering Units
Contra: -beware of sharp edged cliffs, and loose ground with no hold
-sucks in flat areas

SpringRook:
Moves by spring propelling.
Pro: +fairly fast
Contra: Easy to be damaged while on the move

Infection:
Unit basically is invisible and only detectable after it is gone, and the unit it parasitically moved along with, starts to mutate or die in a horrible way.
Pros: +Intersting detective gameplay element
+ Plagues of all the fortress building campers of the earth
Contra:- needs extensive micro, Watson.

Another Idea a Unit that transforms itself into a rocket and propells itself that way to its new designation.


Or how about a disassembling unit, into hundred smaller Units that, arrive at the designated area by conventional ways, and get together into theire old shape.

Another Idea: Longterm TimeTravell
The Unit jumps into a past, long long time away, becoming basically burried in ancient times, and reappears on the map as a metallspot. And when somebody tries to drill for that- guess whos possesing your extractor.

How about Teleportation, but not the sort, were the Unit simply vannishes, but instead the surrounding area slowly fades, getting replaced with pieces of the new destination. That way you never caught that unit moving... just the universe around it..

Then you'd have to fade/move the entire map instead.

Just the part the camera can see, into one huge screenshot- and then do an invisible switch of place..

Another cool type of Movement would be a Pogostick-pole vault-jumping Unit

or a ameba like pudding thing

or just think about a gyrolike unit, rotating unit, coming closer to its destination in circles..

or a Anti-Gravity-Unit, that just rips a piece of ground out, when it starts to hover, and place that bolder with it upon down at the new destination..

or a kite-surfing unit

or a unit- u just never see moving, it stops when the camera points towards it, and only when you turn your back upon it, it moves in mysterious ways

or how about a Unit that is reappears after moving into another dimension, when the enemy opens fire or starts to built, by means of quantumagic?

or something that exists only as a shade, so you basically have to look onto a units shadow, where there is this thing that hacks&slays, but can only move frome shadow to shadow when they touch each other, so if you use a searchlight upon the remaining scrapheap, IT dies..

Yeah, and the acompanying words, that living movement tryies to avoid that stomping, energy intensive ways of movement we usually connect with robots.
Swinging like a pendulum -> kinetic energy -> stored energy -> kinetic energy

Its so simple, but to admit it i ve done it wrong very often animating things, its that by just having that biped, those bones you dont have the real feeling for musles, resistance, weight and gravity. Its just a puppets movement you can produce, anything else - is a Art, the imagining of the real thing- or just copy paste from movies or motion capturing data.

How bout leg like things that have wheels inbetween them, it walks up cliffs using the legs, but in large distances it puts it's legs down touching the wheels to the ground and moves on those like an RC :p

Lol, that's great. One of my unit utilizes this method of transport, although it's a hover unit so it's more for show.

That was a russian amphibious design, if i remember right? They built intersting stuff- remember those Ekranoplanes..
