Hoi's wip thread

Post by Hoi »

I decided that I'm going to make some more stuff, to get better, so I thought, let's make my own thread :P

Here's a wall, it took me about 15 minutes:

Not suitable for any type of spring engine based game without some serious lua afaik, but...

ZOMG awesome texture! :P I <3 the TC blending, how was that done? or is it just part of the texture?
you may want to add some sort of "roof" texture to he top of the wall, although it's quite nice as it is...
kinda hard to comment on a wall =P

The blending is done by having a layer of pure grey, in which you can control the global lightning, and a few photo's of concrete on some blending mode (I used multiply), I added layer masks on them, and inverted the layer mask, so it shows nothing, then I painted on the layer mask to show stuff (I hope you understand what I said :P )

Also, I'm working on something else now, so soon you can comment on something other than a wall

What is the texture size?

Edit-
It looks like you slapped on some random concrete texture to your model and added team color. There is no preshading or anything on it. from gameplay distance it will look like a GREY blob with a red striped on it.

The texture's all right, but I'm with Overkill on the preshading.

Use the Dodge tool a bit, lighten the top edges of the wall, and lighten the edges. Darken the sides a bit with Burn, and just a wee bit extra in the corner areas where the wall meets the columns.

Don't be afraid of overdoing it, that's part of learning, and you'll get the hang of it after trying it a few times.

When you think it's done, lemme know, I need some generic walls for World Builder, if you're willing to release them.

5*2 + 3 -> 13 * 2 -> 26

the side towers are 5 faces each and 3 on the middle section if you remove unseen geometry 2 polies for each face.

you are not culling unseen geometry are you.

Culling the bottoms is a bad idea; think of making it on a hill. But that's still 32. :?

he already culled something if it is 34 also no, it doesn't need a bottom if the polies extend down far enough.

This is still a heavy wip and nowhere near done, but I'm posting it anyway

Ps: the wall is 44 tri's, and 34 without the stuff you don't see.
