Spherebot, now in CA

Post by Saktoth »

You might remember this guy. Finally decided that he fit the new direction for CA close enough that i might as well use him.

Still needs some work (esp teamcolour) but here he is:

Get a closer look in CA. Comments on the design, especially, appreciated. Technical help welcome too but im aware of most of his problems.

yeh ca's peewee was a good model/texture and it dusnt seem to fit ur defined arm theme (even tho uwanna redo texture)

imo could work better as an AK or some other arm unit other than peewee maybe even zeus

Totally right, the old model was much nicer, this one doesnt fit.

Oh trust Otherside and Basic to rubbish it. 'Doesnt fit CA' you mean 'Doesnt fit OTA'. Yes, it looks nothing like the old peewee. Yes it looks nothing like the old designs. It isnt meant to.

CA will be OTA IP free. Its taking a totally new artistic direction, as 7 year old models mostly lack the design complexity that a modern model should have.

As for the weeaboo thing, i can tone that down in some places if people seriously see that as a problem. The little spikes on the back, for example. Its mostly based on Arne/Niklas Jansson/Promethus Spawning Grounds stuff, though different enough as to not infringe on his IP. Since people were very, very positive about his designs and style i thought it would be safe to go that direction, but the mod isnt meant to be anime-based.

Core will take a totally different style for what its worth- a lot more low tech, metal plates, ww2 mech feel.

I think the texture could use work on the back of the torso and the shins, looks like an undefined muddy mass there.

I think if you stretch the gun out a bit you could make it a sniper, since you already have a good peewee model, though it might be a bit fat for a sniper I dunno.

Correct, we're even ditching the name, sooner or later.

Yes. Its muddy in other areas, some of the uvmap cuts are showing, the teamcolour isnt bright and in some areas looks odd, among other things. Try seeing it in game if you're judging from the pics, though.

Its the new peewee. Just because it looks like the sniper or looks like the zipper doesnt mean we're using it for the zipper or sniper, because we're changing the look and feel of the whole mod (For example, the sniper might end up really quite large, since we're going with 'size reflects unit cost' and sniper is one of the most expensive t2 kbots. Also, t2 bots will be more mech-like 'walkers', far less humanoid).

Its a totally new paradigm. New design principles. New design style.
