What makes a bounty project?

Post by Silentwings »

Draft - use this thread for discussion

A bounty project should have:
(1) Clear description of the wanted result.
(2) One or more known reliable persons willing to do the work, for pre-agreed $.
(3) Backers pledging the pre-agreed amount of $.
(4) Agreement amongst the engine devs that it's achievable/wanted.

Naturally, bounty projects don't start out fully formed and will typically grow out of an idea for a wanted feature. The place for discussing project ideas and hopefully turning them into viable bounty projects is this forum.

Bounty projects should be self-contained tasks, separate from the usual flow of engine development.

For an example of a successful bounty project, see http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=32893. See this forum for examples of wip bounties!

It is up to a bounty project to decide at what stage money is transferred. In the past, TransferWise and PayPal have been good ways of transferring money with low charges and without needing the name/address of the recipient.

I think your bounty thread should serve as a basis for what it should look like.

I also wonder what is the purpose of this thread. Most people know how to write letters and how to formulate project. How exactly those are formulated depends much on the specifics of a the projects.

Also, are you writing this as a forum moderator, game developer or as a private person?

I think that all new bounty request should be approve by the moderators, to prevent issues may occur after posting.

there is no need. If an individual floods the bounty forum with idiot ideas that said individual has no legitimate desire to help fund, then maybe the mods will need to step in. As it stands we have nothing in here that would justify establishing such regulation.
