New Map: Comets_Collide / updated to Hill_Forts /

Post by BaNa »

Check bottom of this thread.

http://www.unknown-files.net I BREAK LINKS UNTILL FIXORED /spring/3778/CometsCollide/

The "story" of this map is that four comets /spaceships/ collided on a peaceful planet, and now the forces contained in them have to fight it out. This is a 4 player map, where the players start towards the center, expanding towards the outside. I am interested in how this works for gameplay, its a bit of a change from the usual side vs side thing. Size is 16*16. I'm not quite satisfied with the looks, but thats it for now.

Feedback, especially regarding gameplay is appreciated.

Rendered in Carrara, Terrain created in Photoshop

Thx to Forboding_Angel for the map creation tutorial, and Cronos for the inspiration.

They are metal deposits in craters. Between those are mountain tops.

id also try a version with no pass in the middle. the map concept is a bit 'bassackwards' at the moment, since your expansion isnt covered by your mobile units, because the main line of advance/defense is through the pass.

Reminds me of a map made by an old friend of mine.. Caldera by mother.

Also, the name made me think it was a space/ff style map.

I tried a few games on this one, and it kinda fails.

The lowered start positions that are totally vulnerable from lotsa sides give a feeling of insecurity and the middle pass draws too much focus.

I'm gonna redo this, with raised start pos, and no pass.

btw, i put up a v2 of this, but it fails too...

Okay, I made the new version of this, but wasnt bothered to make a post about it. Since I've seen ppl play Comets_Collide, they may be more interested in this. It's called Hill_Forts, no comets in it, raised start pos, no pass and hills all around. Have fun

I think they are around +20-25 per 1/4th of the map. And these maps where never meant for 7v7 games, so if you do end up playing it like that, don't be surprised there is hardly any metal.
