Balanced Annihilation 5.61 is out!

1. The nanoturret(s) (You only need one) should be at their max range behind the shield, to minimize the chance of a bertha shell hitting them with AoE.Linebacker wrote: So a shield should look like this?
2. Nobody actually makes fortwalls, and they really arent needed, but you can add them in if you want to, doesnt hurt.
3. This is obviously only correct if the enemies bertha is north of the shield.
Seems like an unnecessary waste to have all that extra crap, when 1 stronger shield could deflect without the need to for all that useless stuff to babysit for 1 shield generator.
Btw, those Fort walls will not make that Shield last longer, but rather make the collision even easier to destroy that Generator, Bertha shots have Area of Effect and will hit that wall and still cause massive damage to the generator behind it, all those wall pieces are doing is making the hitbox larger and even easier to hit the generator.
As is, shots still penetrate and hit the actual generator quite easily, and doesn't block anything besides plasma making it quite an easy target to destroy by many other units that do not use Plasma.
What still needs to be done to make shields a standalone ANTI-Artillery unit is simple, boost the deflection strength, and increase the energy cost per deflection enough to actually matter.

You only really need 1 single nanoturret set to guard the shieldgen. Berthas arent that big a threat anyway in most cases, shields just make them even less of a threat.Seems like an unnecessary waste to have all that extra crap, when 1 stronger shield could deflect without the need to for all that useless stuff to babysit for 1 shield generator.
The fort walls will help protect against flashes, stumpies, and other land attacks. It might also soak up some bombs, gunship fire, etc. If a bertha shell penetrates that far into the shield and at that angle, its likely going to hit the shield anyway.
However, i would probably put the fort walls slightly forward of the generator a bit if i were to do that (which i wouldnt) so the bertha doesnt hit the shield with its AoE.

1. Whats AoE?
2. Why don't you use Fortwalls? Does it mean: DT's are also useless here? Or is it just that the difference between FW and DT is meaningless?
3. When a plasma shell hits the shield, what happens? How does one have to think of it?
a. it goes through partially and hits whatever is inside the shield
b. it's deflected partially so that the shell glances off like it would have it a looking-glass
c. the shell is absorbed partially and doesn't do so much damage
4. Why shouldn't Berthas be a threat? They were a big threat to me so far if well positioned and fitted with a targeting facility on top. How could that be not true?

DT's wont stop anything shooting over them. Fortwalls will, but by the time he is in your base, he's prettymuch already killed you. Its not a bad thing to do, its just something most players wouldnt bother to take the time out with.Linebacker wrote:2. Why don't you use Fortwalls? Does it mean: DT's are also useless here? The bertha shell is pushed away from the centre of the shield. If the bertha shell is going through the top of the shield, it will be pushed upwards and thus skim off the surface (like a rock skipping on water) and overshoot its target. If the bertha shell flies directly at shield, it is like throwing a strone directly into the water, and it will penetrate the shieldLinebacker wrote:3. Sometimes, yes- but only the front of the shield (never behind it).Linebacker wrote:a. it goes through partially and hits whatever is inside the shield
Its never a reflection in that sense- it is a deflection. They are very different.Linebacker wrote:b. it's deflected partially so that the shell glances off like it would have it a looking-glass
No. This never happens. Damage is independent of speed. However, it can fall short of hitting directly, and only do less 'splash damage' (AoE).Linebacker wrote:c. the shell is absorbed partially and doesn't do so much damage
Berthas are a threat, especially now they've been buffed. You dont need a targeting facility for Berthas, this does prettymuch nothing for them. Its better for Annis/snipers.Linebacker wrote:4.
