împortant is that filtering is not seen as a act of powers that be to censor you
more of a guy having a longer leaver trying to make you look ridiculous by impotent rage

steam and origin are the same thing- but one is cool and one is not. Why? Cause if you flung shit at valve, it wouldnt stick - or even worser, could fly back at you.

In short, I'm OK with the proposed changes, but ideally I'd do this:

It's actually OK to put the profanity list on server, or note where the profanity list has been obtained from.
I certainly don't see an issue with it either way.

I actually wouldn't mind it if you did enable filtering but made it optional. Alternatively it wouldn't be a bad thing if lobby clients implemented it locally (and then it would be nice to have the profanity list).

making it optional imo this is sth. that makes server code bloat. also performance wise its pretty bad.
