Where Spring stores downloaded games?

Post by nazica »

Hi all!

I have several versions of BA/Chicken defense, so I would like to remove old versions. I've read that spring on mac should store games at ~/.spring/games, but in my case such folder is not available in spring home:

Code: Select all

cd ~/.spring
ls -a
. .. .DS_Store	cache maps packages	pool rapid unitsync.log
So where I can find those game files?

Best regards,
Eugene

Abma, thank you for very quick reply!

I'm a bit surprised why games now have so small size (just 100-200Kb). So there is no point to removing them for clearing hard drive.

Removing "old versions" is usually not needed because rapid (the download system that was used in this case) stores differences instead of full versions each time.
Separate games can be large though, but it's usually the maps that take most of the memory (~/.spring/maps).

-memory
+hdd storage space

Less technical people might be confused. God knows they already don't know the difference between ram and disk space, lets not make it even more confusing :-)

Thank you for clarification about the Rapid system!

My complaint will always be not that it takes up space on the hard drive, but that the menus eventually get unwieldy with 500 useless old versions of games you will never touch again to find the 5 or so you do touch.

Windows
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\My Games\Spring\packages

Linux
~/.spring/packages/

Delete all files in these folders. Lobby will now show that you have no games installed, but you actually do. Simply join a host with your game and it will simply grab the package file again and show up properly in the list (fast, no downloading involved).

Easiest way to clear them out if it's that big of a deal.

Could you imagine if we had to do that for steam? We would all move to Origin within the week.

I exaggerate, but the fact is that there is no substitute for a proper interface. I appreciate there is a lot of work to do elsewhere, but it should still deserve to be mentioned. It's a weakness; we shouldn't uphold silly kludges as solutions.

There are actually several stores in spring that sell allready downloaded games - but may i recommend mine:
www.springrts.com/quick_cash_grab_EA_style.php

But dont listen to me- listen to our satisfied customer:

***** "Greates shop ever. Got me BAR before its release- for allmost nothing!"

*°°°° "Total Ripoff, and worst of all the dev, cant even filter hi rating system for positive feedback only! select * from customer where rating > 4 ! Its not that hard"

***** "Well, Jeff, is a really good chum. So i think i can rate his site. But if this thing turns out to be another scam, i didnt touch it.."

haha! I didn't mean to suggest that we are an online retailer, though that really made me laugh, thanks for that.

But we do have, or at least should have, the management part of those programs.
