Post by manolo_ »

is there an easy possibility to integrate the widget db into tasclient, since SD is now the superb >_< zk-lobby?

Would require a developer, so I doubt it.

You say that like it would be a one-liner. I dont know much python but I would expect it to be as much work as in every other language.
Another approach that does not require a complete rewrite would be to rip-out the widget-tab from SpringDownloader and put it into a standalone-app which would require pretty much just copy-paste.

Also you could just run ZK lobby when you need widgets. That involves zero additional work.

or i dont run zk-lobby, because i dont want to do it. i dont understand why you could not release a simple SD (like in the past) and started with a seperate product (in that case the lobby)

Since ZKLobby is no longer a help tool app (for downloading maps/mods/widgets) but rather a full-featured lobby I think it makes sense to treat it as that.
Latest Tasclient is able to download maps without help nowadays and it would be a bit strange to be forced to start another lobby side-by-side just to download widgets (Latest tasclient does not start ZK Lobby automatically any more).
Also I am expecting you CA guys to kick-out the widget tab at any time soon because AFAIK CA/ZK does not allow user-widgets (which is IMO reasonable) by default. So its probably even confusing for ZK players to have a widget downloader in their lobby at all. Hence in the long term I think ZK Lobby and widget tab dont go well together. I have ofc no problem with the widget tab being in ZK lobby but I am afraid the time will come that it needs a new home.

Ok i don't understand why he wants tab to be removed from one lobby and put into another lobby - makes no sense to me tbh :)

We don't plan to remove widgets tab - certainly not for zero-k lobby which comes in spring installer.

It's already been done.*

sure, it needs some work, and isn't feature complete, but that can do chat.

on a more serious note I was doing the gui work for this and possibly hit a dumb tasclient bug... might need to compile a new tasclient for my script to work fully.

TGUI.GetControlProperties appears like it might be broken so if I finish it I might need to use windows native gui
