Edit:I'm willing to I've already started to touch up the wiki pages as far as I can.
Apparently they want to significantly increase the number of accepted students this year: http://google-opensource.blogspot.com/2 ... t-lca.html

Yeah, didn't try to find the sources for those images since no one seemed to want to do anything about gsoc this year. Iirc jaz posted them here somewhere so should be easy enough to edit them, if you find them.

Just to be clear, submission deadline is March 11, 23:00 UTC

Can't remember what I did for you guys last time so just edited AF's template for 2011/2012. No credit to me here. Although, if you guys want something different, I'll be happy to fix you up with something.

Thank God, thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me due to the two lines of text instead of one xD

Also, irrelevant, but why are smilies disabled on the Development board?

srsbsnss.
I guess so you can post links, code and such without parts turning into smilies.

I assume there's no interest engine side at all this year then? Mentor organization registration deadline is March 8th.

does someone knows how this usally works?

i would expect, that some students asks at a project: "hey, i want to do that..." and then it is tried to make it a SOC project?

or is it the other way arround?

suggest "jobs" and students can (if google accepts) apply to that "job"?

Well, looking at these proposals: http://springrts.com/wiki/Google_Summer_of_Code_2011, I could probably do the AI interface part, as I've already sent a small patch and did some work on creating the new C# AI interface until I saw what great work ivand did with the RPC thing.

Also, even though you don't have that listed, I'd like to be able to have a way to add/remove teams, add/remove/change alliances (possible?), have shared or unshared vision (regardless of alliance status), add/remove AIs, have unexplored (completely black) parts of map, modify current vision, all through Lua. Also a few more functions that are currently possible through /commands would be great to be exposed in Lua (/globallos, /specfullview, /team), etc.

I'd like to have that for my in-game scenario editor anyhow, and I don't mind getting my hands dirty, but I've got little to show regarding engine work except the other work I did in regards to spring projects:
https://github.com/gajop/springgrid
https://github.com/gajop/botrunner
https://github.com/gajop/Toolbox (has an early WIP of the scenario editor i'm making)

These projects are of course based on someone else's original work (springgird and botrunner) or I'm using them as a framework (Toolbox).

PS: The stuff I mentioned above of what could be done are just examples from my point of view (not knowing full well how much work it would require). It would be great if you could update the wiki page or add a couple of suggestions of your own. I'm sure there are some other people that would work but are lacking ideas or insight into how hard or useful something would be.

Abma: I wasn't clear it seems. Yes you need mentors before registering, but you don't need students before registering.

I can mentor beginners who want to learn to model/code. I'm probably not that useful for more proficient students, though. Just make sure to send me a PM if needed -- I might not check this thread in the next week.
