Karl, put the png in the same folder as the 3ds and it should show up. If it doesn't I'll get someone to walk you through adding the material (texture so it shows up in wings).

Basically it;s like this. If you have the png in the same relative location that kaiser did when he was working on it, then the texture will import as well. Also, don't mistake not having a texture for being non-uvmapped. I maek plea in #SY for instructions on how to import the material for the texture. It's fairly simple, but I aven't done it in a really long while.

File --> Import image (texture(s) you want to use)

Window --> Outliner

Drag the correct texture on the right material. If you need to make a new material deselect everything and right click in the viewport --> Material

If you need to assign faces to a material select the faces and do right click --> Select the material you want.

hmmm

well theres probably room on the uvmap for tracks; i didnt add them because at the time i didn't have a good understanding of how the animation worked

all the parts are atlased together because spring only lets you use one skin per unit... i guess if you wanted to make something of all one color, you could just delete the parts you didnt want...

also teamcolor/specular/normalmap textures are available, can't remember if i put them in that release tho

in any case, thanks for the interest, happy to help if you're interested in making stuff with this kit

thanks Hoi for the wings3D instructions, finally was able to load this with textures. Took some trial & error with the material dragging and I think something is not quite right because the textures seem a bit dark. (more visible on the red parts)
Anyway i quickly made some attack vehicle:
Image
At first was confused by all the pieces but then just looked for some interessting looking ones and absolute commands -> move'd them to 0 0 0 and put them together.
So how would team color work with these pieces?
wouldnt there have to be a .tga somewhere?

No knorke, it uses png. You might need to create your own teamcolor texture from it. Also, all the pieces you used are not teamcolor pieces I think. There are 3 sets. 1 is different colors from 2, and 3 is teamcolor pieces.

It looks to me like you jsut used pieces from 1 and 2.

Edit: the texture included is not quite ready for inserting into spring. FIrst you need to set the alpha for teamcolor (it's easy, jsut a lot of magic wanding in photoshop), then you need to create texture2 (once again, easy as hell). I'd do it for you, but I'm busy atm, but you should learn to use png textures anyway, tga and dds is shit.

The neat thing is, you only have to set up this one texture for all your units, meaning that you touch it once, and it's done. You don't have to fuck with it again.
