Hrm - how did you do those planets?

I think some of them, particularly the ones in the third and second last shot could perhaps do with a little bit more 'realistic' feeling. They look a bit like hovering spheres rather then nearby planets.

The planet in the last shot is far more realistic, and heaps better - though I don't like the greenish halo.

There are some really nice planet tutorials out there - like this one.

that is photoshoping a planet I am using bryce 3d. the first shot was an earlier skybox before I got the newer better sky. I have not gone back to further improving my skies as I have been too busy.

I think I'm not fully understanding how skyboxes work. I thought they were flat maps wrapped around a sphere or cube?

Are you able to go back and edit a L3DT render with photoshop later?

Anyway, I understand the 'too busy' thing all to well.

:)

If you look closely at the pictures you will notice the slight warp. that is done by the render make a cube appear to be a sphere.

A stormy skybox could indeed be very cool, especially if you used some sort of gaia/lua spawner to create some CEG lightning flashes in the clouds (not literal lightning that hits the ground, just light flashes in the sky, and perhaps a corresponding CEG groundflash)

I use bryce3d. There are tons of skybox tutorials on the interwebs. I need to try and play in the code. I hate only being one of me, someone build me a startrek transportation beam so that I can copy myself. GOD I NEED A CLONE ARMY!

I don't know if you lot have bryce3d but I could post my files. They have pre-saved cameras locked and ready to render should you want to make your own skybox renders.

I am not doing anything special really just playing around and familiar with bryce3d. I am sure there are others who could make even better looking skyboxes then what I have done.

how do you add a skybox? Is it just put with the smf&smt, or is it compiled with the rest of the map?
