split from NOTA ships

Post by nightcold » 15 Feb 2012, 21:47

just a thought but, i perfer the radar being like a "V" ,like in the original model...also make the thing that hold the radar thiner

I'am also worried about the polly count

i say we should start new makeing models with mr.bob's textures(his thread: http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.ph ... &start=720 )....while he already has remakes for alot of models(that nota can use), but his ships can not be used in nota...basicly i'am hinting that we should start remakeing nota with his models(and we should remake nota modles that he did not do with his own textures, ie:nota ships)...i just don't want nota to fall behind, and his modles would be a waist if they are just used for a "game"/mod that has is just so f-ing bad/un-epic

Why not give me time to begin as good as him? :D what if NOTA became original by not using any other models and textures people would recognize?

His models are rendered though, mine are not..and his models look like way more polies than mine to be honest

1) im ideologicaly against using other games models, other model devlopers "lego_systems"... (btw the linked ones are ugly, the same if you watch BA-remake closely and for longer time than 10 seconds, its ugly too = no remarkable units - all is made from some parts with a lot of pipes, coolers, or some other stuff.. no clear design - all units look like parts of some old motherboard of my computer or like replicators from StarGate, not nice units of robot game).

2) i think, melvin has some qualities, hes not noob, his work is not looking silly. give him time to prove his skills

3) NOONE SAID, WE ARE SURE TO USE ANY OF THESE MODELS HERE YET. We are waiting, talking, suggesting, again talking, watching porn, saying some bullshits, sketching, painting, and a lot of other talking. Dont hurry anywhere... 8) This forum thema is only about commenting model ideas, that someone interested in NOTA do himself, its not about "what we plan to do with NOTA", no great rework of all units is planned, we are very few guys and i will be against every fast_big_super_great_plans, that means, that change of very well balanced game is not disscussed properly.

Whoa there tiger. It's completely possible to be supportive of someone's work without basely insulting the work of someone else.

well i have seen MElvinVM's work before(on the wip thread) i like it. i did not say that he is bad..he has made some good ship models and i;am sure he could do a great job re-doing some nota stuff....i;ll i;am saying is that may be we should gear ourselves for updating nota and giveing it a nex-gen look(that it clearly lacks) and use bob's models in a nota remake...all MElvinVM has to do is made his ship models with bob's texture(and maybe style, reuse some pieces from bob;s current models) for a nota set of bob's models

nota has taken a ton of models from ca/zk.....ie:the flash tank, gloath(the heavy t2 tank, xta has the same one), some fx(that the nota guys moded and slowed down)+ much more(i think....that might be it thu).....

well i;am cool with MElvinVM re-doing nota ships if he consistant with the current art style

ok, i will made a "what we plan to do with NOTA" thread....thor was very conservative with trying to expand the nota fan base and modernizing nota (thu alot of nota looks much better that all the high cpu fx shit at you need expensive gear to c)....i'am just afraid this mod will just be forgotten/end up dead

plz compare nota thuds with ba-remake thuds....casue you will see a huge difference(i will admit, the ba-remake AK and gator look ugly)

To be honest, i think an original texture style would make NOTA really what the mod title actually stands for.

It was hyperbole, esthetic opinion and no real insulting luckywaldo.

1) if we want to make a bit original game, its better to develop own models/textures than grab fast some other game developer's work like horny teenager.. "lulz_i_n33d_n3w_m0d3elz_ASAP!!!!". Unit facelift is key for each game, its not like using some lua gui feature or map. Some things need to be unique, and I think unit model is such thing. (No problem, that we use models of OTA - that is for longer other talks)

2) I hope my esthetic feeling, that ships linked (by nightcold) on that forum page are looking like a toys (not cool things) are acceptable for adult persons. Im not talking about technical part of that job, it can be brilliant and maybe it is. But their look dont match with my idea (and maybe idea of some other people), how should cool ship/robot look like.

3) I said, that such models are inappropriate for NOTA. Maybe my english is not so good, that you didnt understand that idea. Sry.

4) I think the inspiration of devolopers of these games were going both ways, i think i saw some NOTA concepts in CA/Zero-K. :regret: But still, such argument have no power, if you plan to develop somehow-unique game. The game concept and look of units should be different. You can share with other developers lua features, some parts of gui, maps, graphic effects.. but units. i think not. Danil_kalina and a1983 are talented guys, they were able to build lobby almost from nothing, there was no need to pick tons of code from TAS or Springlobby devs. Of course maybe there was some inspiration from some Unix aplications look, but whole design of that thing is their, and i think its really good job. I trust to melvin, that he will able to do some good job for NOTA and he dont need to borrow someones sets or tools (that include facelift of units from other games)

5) maybe Im conservative, too, becouse i spent a lot of time with NOTA. I saw in NOTA forums before, you was the guy, who had plenty ideas, how to "rebalance" NOTA, enhance Airforce to be able to rule whole game for example. My all experince is against all such "easy_ways" ideas. Btw the mod was almost dead in November, when we started to do something with it, so i think few other weeks we still can wait :) and let Melvin show his qualities without press as "we_need_new_skins_hey_man_ASAP".

6) I agree with you, that good looking units can help the mod - thats why we have this forum thema.

Not to promote myself or anything, but if the title even says that the mod is meant to be original it would be a shame to use other's work.

that matter of fact is that nota took models from other mods, and it is ridiculous to say that you don't want to reuse any more because iti s not the nota thing to do

nota=Not Orginal Total Anialtion...basicly this mod was born out of an area in spring when all the mods were basicly ota/aa/ba clones...it dose not mean

most of my balance ideas were towards makeing the thuds weaker and makeing the peewee a more practical unit (which did happen, more or less...(imo peewee could still use a bit more HP)....i was never for op air...i was part of the ship rebalanceing disscution a long time ago

i didnt said that, i said: if we can avoid such using other games content, especialy models and textures, avoid that. We can do that.

that is a good idea, visual identity is very important in distinguishing one project from another.

Secondly, a mod should have models that are designed for that mod specifically or else it would be more like a combination of different other mods or ideas mixed together.

visual unity is really important but the problem is not every project is going to have a dedicated lead artist. S44 had spiked, SWIW, had spiked, Gundam has me. KP and CT are the only two projects I can think of that had more than one person working independently creating matching visuals.

In the end, I don't think anyone would be TOO picky about nota's visuals. Does NOTA have an artist?

split from NOTA ships threads as requested..
merging with http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=27673 would not work I think because the posts would be in random order. (posting times)
