Poll: Should the XTA move to propilkki?

Post by 8611 »

This forum is too limited, it does not allow polls.
But you can post if you prefer the xta or propilkki. Can semprini be reconfigured for that?

edit: desired poll added :regret:

PHPBB can have polls. There has to be a setting toggled to disable polls.

Apparently the moderators do not see an issue with locking xta threads in the xta forum, or with forum moderators banning xta game developers. You could at least discuss first.

All we want is a place to discuss freely, publish our work and 1 (one) moderator that is on our side. I have no problems with remaining on springrts, provided that those conditions are met, but right now, none of them are! You can just look at this locked thread and you see what the problem is:

Just an opinon of a (former) player: I will not check another forum. On this forum I still read the posts in XTA subforum (because I follow springrts ).

Personally I think the first 2 posts in the mentioned thread should use a less dramatic style. Ignoring the drama, this is what I get from the whole thread: "lets move XTA subforum to a neutral place!" , "why is this place not neutral?". Please just consider that what you take as "an example" others might take it as (mostly) noise.

Then whoever is maintaining xta should be this forums moderator... Where is that person? If that person does not want said burden, have them request that the staff assign someone to moderate this sub forum. Instead of making claims like you did in the other thread.

Pnöpel would indeed be a good moderator.

I know it sounds absurd stating that this would not be a neutral place, but I would not make that accussation unless I believed it had any basis. Engine and game development is related, and when too many moderators have their strings attached to various games/engines/projects on the site, they are no longer objective for just moderating the forum. Also, I want to state that all moderators were really good once appointed, but as time goes by you get motion blind. So I think it's really good to shuffle the crew once in a while, it makes a better environment for all of us, and there is no embarrasement for doing that.

Also, everyone who plays xta knows who maintains it.

That is why you lot have subforums. The FGJL forum was a test bed for that.

By creating subforums and allowing the project owner to moderate it, you can control the kind of bullshit allowed or not within your subforum

I am with Jools here, after seeing that thread, Abma had no business locking that thread. That forum is under the purview of the xta forum mods only, and unless something larger is going on, regular forum mods should butt out.

I agree that Abma shouldn't have locked that thread, but it doesn't seem a serious offense.

Imo, sharing the forum with the general spring community is worth the trouble of the occasional unwanted "outside" interference.

there's that saying. Out of sight, out of mind.

You could post on the other forum to draw people to XTA though.

1) Moderators are not supposed to take "sides".
2) Global moderators and admins should still moderate project-specific sub-forums, and forum rules apply to all sub-forums.

I think his claims of moderators abusing power are greatly exaggerated.

Seems it was a bit of a misunderstanding and that information sometimes gets distorted once it travels.
