Re: Questions about BA
Players know nothing about the game they play? Go fuck yourself.

Re: Questions about BA
Bruh, do you even context?
Re: Questions about BA
I think Johannes is explaining how a lot of people know alt-b exists but there are better things to base your reputation on - for example playing the game in question skillfully. This message was sponsored by Discord TM.

Re: Questions about BA
You completely missed the context as well.
The context was people knowing nothing about how the pathfinder works internally, coming up to kloot and bitching about how he broke pathing, blah blah blah.
Johannes came in and acted as if I said people didn't know anything about the game they are playing.
News for both of you, Spring is not a game, spring is an engine, you do not play "spring".
Context matters, especially if you're going to try to sound high and mighty in a reply.

Re: Questions about BA
When engine changes make BA a worse game, then you can expect people to comment on it, even bitch incessantly. If the playerbase doesn't like changes made to the pathfinder, the reasonable thing would be to revert them - this unfortunately never happened. Your mindset that player input should be disregarded in development is insane.
Hopefully this upcoming raw move change will get the current pathfinder on par to what we had 7? years ago.

Re: Questions about BA
You are sidestepping your lack of context in your previous post, but no matter.
The problem with claiming that pathfinding changes made ba a worse game, is that those claims are entirely false and that has been proven time and time again. You can say it all you like, but saying it more often does not convert diction into fact.
7 years ago, the Pathfinder was awful. Oh how quickly you forget units getting stuck on each other, the massive balls of Uber fucked units, pushing enemy units all over the place, etcetc.

Re: Questions about BA
Johannes and FA: you have managed to bring a forum thread in which Doo was writing productive content to double length without adding any further value to it. Not sure how this will make BA better.
Re: Questions about BA
According to a quick github search there are no gadgets in BA that rely on this call-in at the moment, though that does not necessarily mean that it was not relevant (perhaps one existed, the API change caused it to fail to happen, and then was removed later without anybody noticing). Someone could search BA versions from the time of 85 to be sure.[Fx]Doo wrote:-call UnitMoveFailed event only for via Script.SetWatchUnit registered UnitDefs -- This one seems to be really relevant
Re: Questions about BA
Who to believe, your own memory and that of wide consensus in the BA community at the time, or a random game dev who never played BA then? When it comes to rating a pathfinder you are the one lacking expertise - you're not a good player even if you know technically how to make a game.Forboding Angel wrote:You are sidestepping your lack of context in your previous post, but no matter.

Re: Questions about BA
Let me just point out FTR that it wasn't, because until 102.0 BA had the [engine modinfo-]option, specifically added on its behalf, to revert said "constant tinkering" (which could describe all of development, really) simply by enabling classic unit movement but chose not to aside from one brief social experiment. Are you now going to claim Beherith&co were not part of "the BA community at the time", or did your cited "wide consensus" among players perhaps exclude BA's maintainers whose opinions outweighed yours? Spoiler alert: there are PM's from 2012 still sitting in my inbox which back this up.player input should be disregarded in development
Commenting on the original post: I'm sure 2006 TASpring was faster and better in every quantifyable way at one-quarter the current codebase size, and you're more than welcome (in fact, very strongly encouraged) to revisit it .

EE, FunTA, Evo... But no, I'm totally sure that I'm not only a bad player but there is no way that I would know more about the Pathfinder than you.Johannes wrote:Who to believe, your own memory and that of wide consensus in the BA community at the time, or a random game dev who never played BA then? This has degenerated into a contest of e-résumé length, please avoid - https://springrts.com/wiki/Felony#a2
Anyone interested in carrying out experiments, using TASpring from 2006 (DL link from Kloot: https://springrts.com/dl/taspring_0.70b1.exe), should post their results in a new thread.
