Some newbie questions

Post by lnate1 »

Hi, I played a bit of ZeroK and OpenRA and decided I want to give BA a try. I managed to run the game with weblobby, however, I found I have several questions:

1) There are no tooltips for the build icons, how do I know what am I building?
2) When I switch between windows with alt tab the game sometimes hangs, I'm using Ubuntu 16.04.
3) How popular are 1v1 games for BA?
4) Is there any good textual tutorial for me to read? (Assume that I played ZeroK and know a bit about how TA style games work, but I know that ZK eco is very simplified, except for overdrive)

I'll assume you're talking about BA not BAR (which is mostly the same apart from graphics)
1) If you have the default widget layout, hovering over a unit in the toolbar will, instead of a tooltip, provide information about that unit in the lower-left corner of the screen. I would say though that the best way to learn about units is to watch practiced players play the game.
2) I can't answer this, sorry. But the recommendation I do have is to not alt-tab.
3) Not too many people play 1v1 anymore, but there are some out there that would really love to. I for one. People more often play team games, though there is almost always at least one person online that would enjoy a 1v1. (Can I get someone to contradict me here please?)
4) There is one on units in the forum somewhere, I can't find it though. From what I know of zk the units should eventually start to feel practically the same.
A more general guide:https://springrts.com/wiki/Spring_guide
One that discusses the higher level units:https://springrts.com/wiki/Manored%27s_ ... t_BA_units

Both of these are outdated, however you should get a prettey good idea of everything. I do reccomend playing as a good way of learning, and watching other players. And there's quite a bit of room for experimenting too.

Hi!
you can play in windowed mode. Press Enter ingame and type "/fullscreen" (without quotes)
(there are many ways to setup windowed mode)

If you want to scroll with mouse - type "/grabinput" also
I am playing in windowed mode and I am happy!

About how to play: just take a look at some videos:
http://springrts.ru/videos

about 1v1:
just join 1v1 battleroom and wait :-) usually people are very happy to join such rooms
