In my experience the biggest issues with games that size:
* Getting everybody to ready up without some dickface who thinks the game must be balanced a certain way or have a certain number of players constantly preventing game from starting.
* Players dropping out, crashing and leaving the game unbalanced anyway.
To really play a large game properly you want a LAN with players you know.
