has anybody ever thought of making a micro arena submod?
each player would be given certain preset units instead of a commander. no bases, no resource management, just your micro skills.
does this even require a submod, or would a map be sufficient?

Um, mod would be preferable. Senna made a giant shitstorm with a map that was a mod.

This would be awesome, Ive been thinking about it for some time.
But what I thought was each player gets given # amount of metal and energy st the start, and they can place units before the game starts.
You can limit the allowed units like normal.
Then its like best of 5 matches wins the game.

what would have to be done in order to implement this? could i do it myself?
i have very little c++ programming practice, basically just the stuff i learnt at the university. would that be enough? how much time would i have to invest, roughly?

You do not need any C++ to make a Spring mod. At worst a little Lua for everything that deviate from TA (such as starting with more than one unit).
If you already have the units you want your mod to have, and don't let the player choose them, then it could be done in less than an hour.
