Dunno why you said I was insulting someone, I was commenting on someones work. I was the one who various insults were being thrown at, like "fuck you" "get a fucking clue", "fucking vampire", etc.

offer something positive next time, numbnuts. nobody wants to hear that their work is "crap"; how does that help anything. im glad to see you're making models now.
I think that the lego idea's great, and that the only major area where I'd give it serious critique is that it needs a consistent color scheme across major pieces, and to avoid noise. Reflection / glow is stupid-simple to execute, and can wait until the parts are done. Normalmaps... are a little different story, and pre-planning is a must. Kaiser, do you use Photoshop? I have an example template for doing normalmaps fast, in terms of layer setup, that you might find useful.
I'd honestly recommend that every part be put on the final giant map 3 times, so that you can have 3 base colors- strong TC, maybe medium-dark blue-gray and off-white or gray, for an ARM-like feel. That will let people put together stuff with the strong shape-recognition that's a good idea in a RTS, and give the entire side a genuinely "side" feel.
Otherwise, my feeling is that if you can't make good models with quick mesh edits of this stuff, it's user error, not because the content sucks. I wish I wasn't so busy ATM, I want to build a lego set myself, frankly, for the 1001 things that I want to build where one-offs aren't the best solution in terms of time management.
i'm sort of meeting halfway, most "box" shapes are now 2x in the model (not counting stuff like barrels and wheels) with very minor differences in shape between the two versions
and then beyond that i'm planning to have 3 skins... one that's "regular", one thats "reversed" (teamcolor is now where teamcolor was not, vice versa) and one for constuctors and buildings with some bricks and caution lines mixed in there
all of the small greebles and parts i used over and over again are now 3x (again with slight variation)
edit (actually after some consideration, i feel what you suggest is a good idea and will do exactly that.)

we had a pro sound artist "jaysound" contribute a muckload of new noises, they're great!
edit : currently i've got the janus looking a bit more like an artillery piece; thats the beauty of it though, that i can just shift and shove things around as i see fit :>
